Raymond Mitchell Obituary

Raymond Cecil Mitchell, 80, of Radford formerly of Giles county and Floyd county, passed away on December 25, 2009 at the New River Valley Medical Center due to complications from surgery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Posey Emmett and Lucy Ida Duncan Mitchell, stepmother, Media Mitchell, son, Curtis Wayne Mitchell, daughter, Betty Jean Mitchell, five brothers, Hix, Kiser, Jeff, Guy, Gilbert, also by David Bain. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Daisy Aretta Wade Mitchell; daughter, Melissa Mitchell of Radford; son, Ralph Mitchell and wife, Rita of Rich Creek; daughter-in-law Rachel Mitchell of Galax; sister, Laureen Reed of Floyd; and brother, Thomas Mitchell. Also survived by five grandchildren who were the love of his life, Samantha Mitchell of Laurel Fork, and fiance' Adam Goad, Christina Mitchell and fiance' Larry Weatherly of Rich Creek, Kyle Mitchell of Radford, Dustin and Lynn Bain of Radford; three very special Boys, David Wade Radford, Anthony and Brandon Bain, of Check. He also leaves behind four special and dear friends, Sam and Barbara McDaniel of Peterstown, W.Va. and Jack and Kathy Meadows of Pulaski. He also leaves behind many good friends. He was a veteran of the Korean war and also with the 101st airborne division in Germany. He was a life time member of the VFW Post #6000 and the American Legion Post # 68 in Narrows. Raymond was a member of the Pleasant Valley Brethren Church in Alum Ridge. Family will receive friends Monday December 28, 2009 at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, W.Va. from 5 to 8 p.m. and at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd, Va., Tuesday December 29, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday December 30, 2009 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel Floyd, Va., with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Floyd, Va. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Inc. Online condolences may be made by visiting maberryfuneralhome.com.

I enjoyed meeting and visiting with Cecil at his home a few months ago, when he told me some about his days as a youth in Locust Grove, Floyd County, and looked forward to visiting him again. It was sad to hear of his passing. I extend my sympathy to his loved ones. David Shank

Cecil, was a very good friend of mine, we use to laugh and carry on at Hardies. I will surely miss his phone calls. May God bless his family, we will all miss him
