Ira Mitchell Obituary

Ira Mitchell, of North Palm Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, December 22, 2009. Born in Roanoke, Va., he led a truly American life. He served in the Army Air Corp. in Germany during World War II. He then enjoyed a career for over 35 years with the National Park Service. From the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia to the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, he graced our country. Mitch and his wife, Geneva, retired to Florida 20 years ago. A true Southern gentleman, "Mitch," with his erect posture, flowing white hair and gentle bass voice, was a dashing fellow. Mitch is survived by his two sons, Mark (Alice) Mitchell and Matthew Mitchell; grandson, Stephen; and sister, Ish Haga. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geneva Gay Dunn; and by his daughter, Sharon Gay. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at the Mizell-Faville-Zern Funeral Home, West Palm Beach, Fla., 561-833-4061, from noon to 2 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, Fla. 33407.
