Barbara Hubbard Obituary

Barbara Gene Hale Hubbard, of Richmond, Va., slipped peacefully from this earth on Sunday, December 27, 2009, with her daughters by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dewey Coolidge Hubbard; and parents, Erby and Nora Duncan Hale. She is survived by loving daughters, Cathy Bell (Doug) of Los Angeles, Calif., and Vicky of Mechanicsville, Va.; granddaughters, Kari and Katie Rappold; sister, Yvonne Gray (Ben), of Louisville, Ky.; brother, Nathan Hale (Carolyn), of Christiansburg; sister-in-law, Betty Moore, of Bristol, Tenn.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of dear friends and neighbors. Born and raised on Bent Mountain, Va., Barbara resided in Richmond for the past 60 years. Her former employers include Thalhimers, Producers' Co-op, Southern States and Lansing Building Products. She was an avid duckpin bowler and enjoyed gardening, but her biggest source of joy was in community and service to her church. A dedicated, loyal and active member of Skipwith United Methodist Church since 1960, she served in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher, Building and Grounds Chairperson, United Methodist Women, and overseeing the church kitchen. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, Va. Funeral service, with reception immediately following, 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Skipwith United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Skipwith United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

My deepest condolences go out to Vicky and her entire family. I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Mrs. Hubbard many years ago and she was one of the nicest ladies I've ever met. She will be greatly missed.
