Mary Bacon Porter

Mary Porter Obituary

Mary Bacon Porter, 99, of Radford, Va., passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at the Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Radford and a retired manager with Sears for over 25 years. She was preceded in death in 1961 by her husband, H.T. Porter. Survivors include several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Vada Boyd, of Radford. Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Radford with Dr. Paul Lane and the Rev. Kent Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Porter requested that memorial contributions be made to the Vision Property Fund of First Baptist Church in Radford. The family would like to extend special thanks to The Kroontje Health Care Center and Good Samaritan Hospice for the excellent care given to Mary. A friend just let me know about Mary. I didn't know where she was after she left her apartment and my cards were returned. She was so special to my mom (Opal Robertson) and to me. My daughter Mary Beth was born on her birthday and named for her. We spent many good times together at her home and on vacations. I know how much you meant to her and her to you.

Ms. Boyd,
I was so sorry to hear about Mrs. Porter. She was such a very special lady and it was always a bright spot in our day when she came to the office. Her spunk and independence were delightful and inspirational. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you take this difficult journey of grief. May you feel the love of God wrapping His precious arms around you each day!
