Ola Kirkwood Powell

Ola Kirkwood Powell, 82, of Bedford, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 peacefully in the arms of her family at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bedford County on August 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Lawrence R. Kirkwood, Sr. and Ethel Almire Kirkwood. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Floyd Powell, her brothers, Lawrence R. Kirkwood, Jr. and wife Dorothy and William R. Kirkwood. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. Ola is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Fellers and husband, Pete of Goode, Jane Burnette and husband, J.R. of Bedford; a stepdaughter, Virginia Schlemmer and family of Long Beach, Calif.; her grandchildren, Robert and Stephanie Wilson of Copper Hill, Va., David and Leslie Wilson of Big Island, Nancy and Stewert Gray, Amanda Burnette, Daniel Burnette all of Bedford; Lori and Tony Myrtle of Staunton and Brandon Fellers and fiancée, Jennie Schwam of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Riley and Julian Gray, Dyllon Wilson, Hunter Wilson and Jeremiah Jenkins; a sister-in-law, Rahma Lee Kirkwood of Roanoke. Memorials may be made to Heart Haven, Lynchburg District, via the Methodist Church or to Main Street United Methodist Church, 212 E. Main Street, Bedford, Va., 24523. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Les Trail officiating.
