Edmond Damus Obituary

Edmond A. Damus, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010, at Lewis-Gale Hospital. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Pauline A. Damus; his son, Stephen E. Damus, of Buford, Ga.; and his daughter, Jean Marie Damus, of Los Angeles, Calif. He has a surviving brother, William Robert Damus, of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. Ed Damus was preceded in death by his father, Abraham Damus; mother, Mary Debs Damus; sisters, Souad Khoury and Agnes Alouf; and his brother, Nassief Damus. Ed worked many years as a field underwriter for Monarch Life Insurance Company. He and his wife, Pauline, attended Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church and Saint Elias Church in Roanoke. Ed was a generous man who volunteered at Lewis-Gale Hospital. He raised money for St. Jude Children's Hospital. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 14 years. He was an interpreter for the Red Cross Chapter in Roanoke. He supported the RAM House by hiring those less fortunate. He secured the land and built the Hidden Valley Intermediate Schools baseball fields. He was active in the Kawanis and worked as an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau in Roanoke.
Ed felt privileged to live here. Whenever he was called upon, he responded as a loyal citizen of his adopted country and community. He adored his family and cherished his friends. An avid bridge player; he made a point of spreading good cheer wherever he went and of easing the lives of others. He will be missed.
Donations may be made to RAM House, 824 Campbell Ave., SW, Roanoke, Va. 24016 or to the National Kidney Foundation, 2261 Mattaponi Dr., NW, Roanoke, Va. 24017. Flowers may be sent to Our Lady of Nazareth Church, 2505 Electric Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018.
Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010, at Our Lady Of Nazareth Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Joseph Lehman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.

Thru the years when you have talked about your Dad there was always a smile that came to your face. This should not change and know that time heals. The hardest thing for me when i lost my dad was friends saying they were sorry so i will talk to you about boats, needy children and beaches, the things we love next time we meet.
