GENE W. SARVER, 89 PECATONICA - Gene W. Sarver, 89, of Pecatonica, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, in Medina Nursing Center in Durand, after a courageous battle of ill health. Born at home July 17, 1920, in Winnebago County, the son of Carr and Marie (Campbell) Sarver. Married Mavis A. Canter on Aug. 30, 1947, in Pecatonica. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, from 1942 to 1945. Graduated from Durand High School, Class of 1938, and from Elgin Watch Academy in November 1948. Gene then farmed for a number of years with his father. He retired from Woodward Governor in 1986. Lifetime member of VFW Post no. 8416, member of Eugene Barloga American Legion Post no. 197 both in Pecatonica and Durand United Methodist Church. Survivors include wife, Mavis Sarver of Pecatonica; daughters, Anita (Chris) Roby of Saxon, Wis., and Georgene (Larry) Hickman of Potomac; son, Thomas (Sherrie) Sarver of Browntown, Wis.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Faye (Leland) Hilton of Pecatonica; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents. Funeral ceremonies at noon Monday, Nov. 9, in McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main St., Durand, with visitation from 11 a.m. to time of ceremony; the Rev.
