ELIOT, Maine — Robert Strachan White Jr., 72, passed away at home in Eliot, Maine, on Monday, June 2, 2008 due, in part, to a lengthy illness.
He was born on Jan 18, 1936 in Beverly, and attended Beverly public schools. "Bob" grew up on Lovett Street, where his father, Robert S. White Sr., had also been raised. He was a 1955 graduate of Beverly High School.
Robert was in the Air National Guard and worked at Bomac in Beverly (where he met his first wife, Marjorie McKay) and for 33 years at GTE Sylvania on Endicott Street in Danvers. As a technician, he received several patent awards, as well as the Warner Award. He retired in 1997 and moved first to New Mexico and then to Kittery, Maine.
Bob and Marjorie were married in the Wesley Methodist Church in Salem on June 15, 1957 and settled in Beverly. They enjoyed 28 years of marriage and had three children. His favorite pastimes include camping, rock collecting, photography, model trains, genealogy, and computers. He played the saxophone and loved to sing, especially in the church choir.
He was an active Boy Scout leader in Ryal Side for many years. He enjoyed taking his family on many weekends and summer vacations to Maine, New Hampshire and Nova Scotia. He was an active parishioner at the Immanuel Congregational Church in Beverly. Bob cherished life, nature, and his many friends and his family.
Robert is survived by his children, Curtis White and his wife, Elaine of Salem, Lauren Martin and her husband, Steve of Marblehead, and Shari Marescalchi and her husband, David of Beverly, as well as his grandchildren, Daryl and Daniel Martin, Nathaniel and Lydia White, and Kyle and Hannah Marescalchi. In addition, he leaves a sister, Marilyn Haszard of Ohio, several nieces and nephews and his second wife, Sharon (Hartley) White and her children, Deborah Randall, and Rhonda Dion and their families, all of Maine.
He is predeceased by his first wife of 28 years, Marjorie Jean (McKay) White, and his father and mother, Robert S. and Helen (Curtis) White. Also recently deceased was a stepson, Paul Burton of Salisbury.
ARRANGEMENTS: A private memorial service was held in South Berwick, Maine. Interment will be at the North Beverly Cemetery. Friends are invited to share their special memories of Bob by visiting Legacy.com.

It is with sorrow to do this. Bob was always the one with a smile and
friendly do you need help. We met as a camping family, and as Scout leaders. Have so many fond memories of the summers weekends, the winter meetings and potluck suppers. Who could forget Bob cooking his outdoor meals.
Our condolences to the familys' left behind.

To the family. I remember Bob as a very nice man. He could always make someone laugh. I bought my first big camper from Bob. We were very excited to get it from him. He was also excited that we were going to get good use out of it which we did. To this day we still use the chairs that came with the camper and everytime we use them we think of Bob. Our deepest sympathy to the family on Bob's passing. Rest in Peace Bob.
