Marian Mowery Obituary

Marian S. Mowery SALISBURY - Marian Swicegood Mowery, of Salisbury, died peacefully in her sleep Monday, June 12, 2006, after a long and painful fight with numerous health problems. Her life evidenced care and concern for others, and she will be truly missed. Mrs. Mowery was born May 17, 1922, in Rowan County to the late Monroe C. Swicegood and Margaret Esther Beck Swicegood Eller. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and graduated as salutatorian at Cleveland High School. She was a life-long member of Enon Baptist Church, where she had been active in Sunday School, the Laverne Applewhite Mission group, and the senior citizens club. She had also led a group of GA 's and taught Bible School classes. She was caretaker for her husband, Fred L. Mowery Sr., who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Fred L. Mowery Jr. (friend Karen) and Margaret M. Kirby; sister Velna Morgan of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandsons Lewis Mowery (wife Gretchen) and Jeff Kirby (wife Lezlee); and great-grandchildren Ashley, Emily and Mark Mowery, Ross Wayne, Tory Teague and Lindsay Kirby. Visitation : The family will receive friends and relatives Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Summersett Funeral Home. Service : Funeral services will be at Enon Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m with the Rev. Dr. Kendal P. Mobley, minister, and the Rev. Wayne Trexler officiating. Mrs. Mowery will lie in-state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. Dear Margaret and Fred Jr.

Aunt Marian was a very special woman and she will be missed beyond what words can describe. I always felt so close to her and will always smile and feel warm and loved when I think of her. She told me in May at her birthday party that she was ready to go whenever the Lord was. So she is in a much better place now as we all know. She was so proud of her fmaily and rightfully so. You have honored your mother well. My love to you and your families always.

Love,

Sara

Dear Margaret,

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. How we rejoice that to be "absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!" May God grant you His comfort at this time.

Margaret, Fred, and families, We will not be able to be with you this weekend, but we will be thinking about you. I really enjoyed my visits with Aunt Marian over the past few years when I returned to Salisbury. We always enjoyed the crossword puzzles!!I know she would want my family to be together since this is Grant's last weekend with us until Christmas. She always asked about him and how he was doing at West Point. That's why I gave her the new flag for Mother's Day! Your mom and I said our goodbyes in April. We knew this day was coming, and she was ready to be with the Lord forever. Know that we are thinking of each of you during this time. Love and prayers, Rheta, Neil,& Grant Carriker
