Cathy Evans Obituary

Cathy (Catherine) Evans 1957~2008 Cathy (Catherine) Evans, 50, died in Salt Lake City, UT on April 8, 2008 at 7:08 p.m. so she could see the Jazz beat the Hornets. She plans to take up residence at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland and be our friendly haunt as we visit there. She was born December 24, 1957 to Lynn Bird and Georgia Kanell Evans. She died after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family. Cathy graduated from Olympus High School in 1976 and attended CEU and SLCC. She had a lifelong love for children, Disneyland, the Utah Jazz, clowning, and good clean fun with friends. She worked hard at everything she did, whether a child care position, at the food service counter, or helping children on rides at Lagoon. Her favorite job was putting up Christmas lights on Temple Square. Cathy has a playful spirit and a delightful sense of humor. One of her favorite alter egos was Foofy-Goofy the clown. Though she never married or had children of her own, she has a true "mother's heart" and enjoyed nothing more than taking care of and entertaining young children. She was a second mother to her many nieces and nephews, a favorite aunt to all of them. Aunt Cathy was always interested in everything they were doing, and encouraged and supported them in all their pursuits. She especially loved to give them gifts of video games, movies, and Disney memorabilia. She had a special relationship with her youngest nephew, Spencer with whom she attended numerous Jazz games over the years; he was like a son to her. She made friends with everyone, everywhere she went. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she provided many years of service. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gordon Watson, Dr. Nasfat Shehadeh, and Michael Cole (and their staffs) for their loving care. Cathy is survived by her parents, her sisters, Rochelle (Stephen) Enderton, Marylynn, Kristine, Julie (David) Fairbourn, and Angela, and also by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wilford Stake Center, 3080 South 1765 East, SLC, UT. Family and friends may call Friday, April 11, 2008 at Canyon Road Towers, 123 East 2nd Avenue, SLC, UT from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and at the Stake Center one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity or the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.

Bro and Sister Evans,
As I think about my very early years in life in the good old Imperial ward. I do often remember those friend's that we grew and learned so much with. We some times didn't understand about Cathy as we were so young. But because of her I grew to respect all of gods children. I'm happy to know that she has enjoyed life and I respect her for that life. I wish you the best and may peace come your way as you all reflect on the wonderful person Cathy is.

Days and years have just rolled on and Skye and I were talking tonight about Cathy and everything that she remembered, and we talked of all of you and of how for so many years we felt like family. A long time has passed, but we all want you to know, we haven't gone so far down the road that we don't love and care about you.

Julie; My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of loss. Cathy's contagious smile and kind, youthful heart with be missed but I am so grateful she is now at peace. She truly fulfilled all that was required of her during her days of mortality. I am a better person because I was privileged to know her and your family. I is hard to believe that Cathy won't be around at the next family gathering. She always had so much life & loved to have fun. I remember the last time she was in Grantsville she struck up a conversation with my daughter Nava. She was trying to talk Nava into enjoying a day at Lagoon with her. I am so glad that she was well enough to make that last trip to Disney Land with her whole family. My heart goes out to all of you.

I loved Cathy. She was always pleasant and just laughed off her brother-in-law's jokes. She shared with me her room once when I was in town and even insisted I use her bed another time. I have never known a pleasanter, kinder, more generous person. All my sympathy to Georgia and Lynn and her sisters. I am so happy to have known her!

Cathy was always considered one of the gang to those of us who worked in subway with her. She could always make you laugh and was always helping us learn new things. She will be dearly missed but her spirit will live on forever. My prayers are with her family in this time of grief. God be with you 'til we meet again

I remember working with Cathy at Lagoon and how much enthusiasm she had for life. She had such a good, warm, and loving heart. I first met her when I attended school with Julie, but really got to know Cathy during our summers at Lagoon. She was always willing to do whatever needed to be done. She certainly was a kindred spirit to all the little kids there. I am sure she is entertaining all the little ones in heaven even now. My sincere sympathy to her family, I am sure she will remain forever in your hearts and memories as she was an unforgettable person. God bless and comfort you.

I'm going to miss Cathy - especially going to Jazz games with her and talking Jazz stats with her at family parties. Steve E. will never understand how much we both love the Jazz! I loved it when she would get all crazy and mad when the refs made a "bad" call. She would stand up and yell funny comments like "you should get glasses ref" or "maybe you should go to ref school because you stink". She was definitely a passionate fan. I know that my family and I had fun on multiple trips to Disneyland with her and she always had so much energy there. I will miss her smiling face and infectious personality at our family parties. I'm glad to know that I'll see her again someday soon.
