Milton Matthews Obituary

Milton Paul Matthews 1919 ~ 2005 Milton Paul Matthews died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, of causes incident to age. He was born November 2, 1919, in Grantsville, Utah, to George Morris Matthews and Lucy Ann Sabin Wrathall. He married Ann Henrichsen December 18, 1943, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had seven children: Susan Sandberg (Gary), Morris (Patsy), Paul (Charlene), Julianne Echols (John), William (Sharon), Janet Nelson (Jeff) and Diane Healey (Patrick). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan and a grandson, Joshua; survived by his wife, Ann, six children, 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Milt was a veteran of World War II, an active member of the LDS church and served a mission in Argentina from 1940-43. He counted the surviving Ch‚s among his best friends. He received academic degrees from the University of Utah (BA) and New York University (MA and PhD) and was a professor of Marketing at the University of Utah for over 30 years. He was noted as a knowledgeable and entertaining teacher. He also taught in Germany, Spain, England, Hawaii, Burma and Turkey. He was active in real estate procuring sites for branch banks, developing shopping centers and purchasing land throughout Utah. Milt set a great example to his posterity of the value of education and a good work ethic. Family was extremely important to Milt and he attended countless sporting and artistic events of which his children and grandchildren were a part. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 on Saturday, December 10th, at Millcreek Stake Center, 4220 South 420 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, with a viewing from 11:00 to 12:15. An additional viewing is on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund or the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund at www.lds.org\ldsfoundation or a charity of your choice.

During my years at the U I always tried to get as many classes of Prof. Matthews as possible because of his inspirational and entertaining teaching methods. Truly a great educator and mentor who loved a good laugh while always making his point. My warmest memories of Business College were in his classes.
