Larry's nephew Todd and I have been dating for a year and a half now. We had been dating for a little over six months when I met Larry for the first time at Maile's graduation from the U.

I was very impressed with Larry's amazing, boundless knowledge and his talents in photography. His cunning wit always kept those around him on their toes.

I was there during some of the last moments of his life, and I know that his presence is deeply missed by Grandpa Holt and his incredible sister Karen, as well as the rest of his family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Holts and McCraleys during this difficult time... and always.

With Love - Natalie

I always looked forward to those occasions when Larry came to the Rose Wagner Center (where I work). He was a highly skilled live sound engineer and has made many beautiful recordings of live events. He is also one of the warmest, friendliest, funniest and genuinely caring people I've had the oppertunity to meet.

I remember Kat and Larry and me lugging tons of stuff into high schools to record young voters. He always wanted to make sure it was done right, but I never felt judged by him when I would "help," even if he had to redo it completely after I had tried to. I remember hearing him tell me about what new computers were coming, and what else we could do with this or that new device. I remember him tellling me about the patterns of certain mikes and why to use them and not another type in the given application. I remember talking to him about Voyager or Deep Space Nine, even.

Remembering that has helped me realize that despite his very dry wit, and somewhat intimidating first impression, Larry was an optimist. And I cringe almost to say it, because he is not the happy, smiling, it'll-all-be-all-right kind of optimist. He would suffer no fool such as that gladly, I'm sure. Instead, I think of him as an enthusiast.

He was, I think, committed to KUER and the people he worked with there, because he had enthusiasm for sound, music, radio and good people who also had enthusiasm, even if we never could understand what wrong button we pressed, but could he fix it please? I am grateful to Larry for never discouraging my curiosity and tentative exploration of the world he knew so well. I remember looking forward to setting up the Citizen Panel in the Dumke, because I knew he and I would be stuck in there, plugging this into that, for a half an hour, and we could share our enthusiasms for a moment or two. Thanks, Larry. I miss you.

Larry and I were in the University of Utah band together many years ago, what a shock to read of his passing. I will always remember how he would tease us, and get us to smile. One of his favorite things to do, being the tall one that he was, was to come up behind my friend and me, she being as short as I am, and lay his elbows on the tops of our heads...

He was a talented man, he will be missed greatly by all who knew him. My condolences to all of his loved ones.

I am so sorry to hear that Larry had passed away. It is my hope for all that you will be safe and that your spirit is at peace. Larry was a wonderful artist, recording engineer and friend.

As a child, I loved the stars at night. Deep into the night I would share with them my deepest thoughts and passions. Now, I am older. I have lost my thoughts of my youth but I still love the stars for I have always been a dreamer. Everytime that someone passes away in my life, I walk out into the field and select a star to remind me of that person throughout my life. I just wanted Larry to know that I have selected one to remind me of him. It is large and bright; a symbol of how you have brighten my life with your smile. I know that you have left this earth Larry, but I can still can see you in the night sky. So, please feel free to give me advice like always and I will be happy to receive it!

Fly free Larry, and always dream within your spirit. We will surely miss your love.

Your friend,

Dean

I only just met Larry during the March/April NPR Spring Fund Drive, where I was a volunteer. I am so very, very sad to hear of his death. What a shock to all those who knew him for years and worked with him on a daily basis. He seemed like such a good-natured man and was always very kind and reassuring to me. I wish I had known him better and longer. I send my deepest sympathy to all of his friends. I am sure he had many.

Tenderly, may time heal your sorrow.

Gently, may friends ease your pain.

Softly, may peace replace heartache,

And may warmest memories remain.

Sincerely,

Kae Loy Hanna

I've had the privelege of working with Larry at KUER for nearly eight years. I can't begin to list the many things that I'll miss about Larry, he's influenced and inspired so many people. I am a better woman having worked with Lar...his family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

I wrote on Don's website, but I want to add here that you, as a family, must be quite wonderful for having nurtured such a compassionate, sensitive, strong, generous man. The world would be much better with more people like Larry.
