Gregory Nelson Obituary

Gregory Mark Nelson "I'm Free" Greg, 35, beloved father, son, grandson, brother and friend, went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, due to a tragic and untimely death on March 20, 2009.Greg was born August 1, 1973 in Pierre, SD. He grew up in Murray, Utah and is a graduate of Murray H.S. and Snow College where he played football and was the proud recipient of the Golden Badger award. Greg's life was filled with highs and lows but he was always a very loving and trusting person. He loved everyone and wanted to be loved in return. He especially loved his children and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Greg attended Life Church in West Valley and enjoyed the ministries. He was involved in volunteer work for the Special Olympics and worked with special needs children before switching to a career in finance and investments. His love of children spilled over into his daily life for his sons and daughter. His sons, Marcus Nelson and Ammon Snidman; daughter, Isabella Nelson; sister, Gina Dirksen; niece and nephew, Sabree and Jakob; his parents, Roy Nelson and Patricia Nelson; and grandmother, Kay McConnell, survive Greg. "All who knew him will miss him dearly". I am so very sorry to hear about your untimely loss and my prayers are with you. I did not get to know Greg as well as I should have but he was always respectful and a good kid. I really can say I understand your pain and urge you to always remember him on those special days, it has really helped our family. Stay close to those wonderful kids he left as a legacy. Your faith that he is in a better place will help. Bless you and your family.

My deepest sympathies to Greg's family and many friends at this time of sorrow. I was his friend, neighbor and realtor. Greg's optimistic attitude, his loyalty to those he loved, and his funny sense of humor are what I will miss most.

I admired his ability to "suit up " and "show up" every day and slay his dragons. And get up and try even harder the next day. I will miss my friend and
pray for solace to his loved ones in the long days ahead without that smile that made our world a little brighter.

Though I spent only 5 min. with Greg in December when I went to visit my home in Draper. I could tell he had a heart of gold and loved his daughter and family. He even had a chalk bicycle highway in the basement for her to ride her bike around on when she visited and his love of life was evident. I am heartbroken and saddened by this news and pray that God brings peace to the hearts of his loved ones. All we can do is "praise Him in the storm".

March 27, 2009

To Roy and Pat, I am so sorry to get this news. I know your hearts are so heavy, but the prayers of God's children are holding you up in prayer and are so thankful for Greg's life. Sorry we never got to know him. Love to all, Cousin Eileen, Ken and Phil Smith

Don’t think of him as gone away -
His journey’s just begun.
Life holds so may facets -
This earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.

Think of how he must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.

And think of him as living
In the hearts of those he touched…
For nothing loved is ever lost -
And he was loved so much.

Pat and Family,

I am so fortunate to have been friends with Greg. I am deeply saddened by his passing. I hope you find comfort knowing that he is now in the arms of Jesus, and we will one day see him again. My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Greg you are finally free I can see you now soaring through the heavens as an angel looking over your family. Greg had a great sense of humor and always knew how to make people laugh. He was kind hearted and like a big teddy bear and he always cared about others. Some of my favorite memories in life are those that were spent hanging out with Greg and laughing for days. You will be missed buddy and now you can finally rest and be at peace. My blessings go out to the family and his sweet kids. Till we meet again buddy...Rest in peace!

Dear Pat and family, I got to know Greg a few years ago when he began coming to our church home group. He had a great sense of humor, a great smile and a heart that was set on following Jesus. The Lord was before him and that was enough. I know all of us in our home group were blessed to have gotten to know him. Take peace that Greg will meet you some day, this is not something that can be said about everyone - praise God that Greg accepted that invitation to travel down the narrow path. My heart is and will be in prayer for all of you the family - with love.
