Mark William Geyer

Mark Geyer Obituary

Mark William Geyer 11/11/1962 ~ 5/20/2009 Mark battled valiantly with pancreatic cancer for almost two years. He endured his illness with grace and dignity despite the huge toll the disease took on his body.Mark was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Carolyn Smith Geyer and C. William (Bill) Geyer. He attended college at Augustan College in Sioux Falls and then moved to Salt Lake City to attend law school at the University of Utah. Mark chose the "U" for the mountains on the brochure and not counting a short stint in Los Angeles has remained close to his beloved mountains ever since. Mark was a partner in the law firm Ward, Miller and Geyer and was able to remain active in the firm through most of his illness. Mark is survived by his daughter, Lydia, his wife, Kim Lewis, his younger brother Thomas Geyer and his parents, Bill and Carolyn Geyer. Mark's family was one of the most important things in his life, especially his daughter, Lydia. He loved to take her to the park, climb the mountains with her and read books to her. Snuggles and bath time were also a big part of every day. Mark also leaves behind a dog, Dalton, and two cats, Annie and Maria who provided endless comfort and amusement on a daily basis. We will truly miss the man we knew as "dada". A gathering to celebrate Mark's beautiful life will be held Saturday, May 30th at Em's Restaurant (271 Center Street) from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Remembrances will begin at 5 p.m. Please come and enjoy the company of Mark's many friends as well as his family and add your stories to the day. Celebratory attire is required (black will not be allowed) - Hawaiian prints and tie-dies are preferred. Kim and Lydia and the rest of the Lewis and Geyer families wish to give their gratitude and thanks to all of the health care workers that helped Mark on his journey: Dr. Kim Jones, oncologist, and the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, Dr. Scott Junkins and the rest of the doctors at the University Pain Clinic. Dr. Doug Goldsmith at The Children's Center, LDS Hospital - both the emergency room and the 8th floor west, LDS Home and Health Care and Hospice, the emergency teams at Station 4 and the Cancer Wellness House. And we send our never ending gratefulness to all our wonderful friends and neighbors who gave and continue unselfishly of themselves. In lieu of flowers both families request that a donation be made to the Cancer Wellness House in Salt Lake City or that a tree be planted in Mark's honor. Funeral directors, Garner Funeral Home.

I'm so sad for your loss. I graduated from Augie with Mark. I had both of his parents as professors while majoring in English there. I remember Mark as fun-loving and so bright. He was fun to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It has been our honor to be of service to Mark over the past several years and to the law firm of Ward, Miller & Geyer. Mark always made us smile with his dry wit and great sense of humor. We will miss him and his family is in our thoughts. From the staff of Strategic Employee Benefit Services.

Mark, you are now where you can see and feel the love of everyone you ever came in contact with. You alone, could walk in any room and love, joy, and life would radiate from your very Being. The love of your family and friends will forever be remembered.

May God bless Lydia(she was like our own child as we at the Cancer Wellness House would hear of her life), Kim (your love and mother of Lydia), all Mark's family, friends and associates, and the animals that helped Mark serender.

My love and support will be with you always.

Mark was instantly liked by all who met him and witnessed his smile and charm. He was my first "new friend" in law school and quickly made many more. I will never forget that end of first week inaugural trip to Wendover, the Friday afternoon golf after Torts, the lost wallets, lost keys and getting locked out of his apartment we managed, the first week he moved in. Geyer was a special friend and had nothing but kind words to say about everyone. I wish I could be there to celebrate on Saturday to listen to and share our memorites of Mark. Mark is smiling down on all of us now the same way he always did. God Bless Mr. and Mrs. Geyer, Kim and Lydia.

My law partner, my friend and my reliable scapegoat for going to Wendover - you will be missed. My world is dimmer without you in it, but your legacy will live on. You have left us many gifts, not the least of which is an adorable daughter.
