Carol Smith Obituary

Carol Lynn Frisbey Smith 1943 ~ 2008 Carol, our loving wife, daughter, sister and mother passed away from cancer on September 1, 2008 and will be truly missed by all.Carol was born on February 1, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to RGW and Donna Frisbey. She grew up in SLC and graduated from Highland High School in 1961 and went on to receive her Bachelors degree from the University of Utah. Years later Carol returned to the UofU and received her Masters Degree in Education. Her passion for teaching led Carol on a 35 year career in teaching elementary school. Her favorite subjects to teach were history, art and music. Carol was strict with the kids, but all respected her with her dedication toward their educational success and personal growth. She also coordinated many school musical programs and had fun art projects with her students. Carol returned to teaching after a brief retirement and mentioned that it felt like "coming home." Carol's hobbies included playing the piano, music, interior decorating, traveling and playing tennis and golf. She actually had a hole-in-one at Mountain Dell Golf Course. Other interests were creating flower arrangements which led to her having her own business called "Wreaths & Things." Hard working, self motivated, outgoing, and generous were just a few of Carol's admirable traits. When she put her mind to accomplish a goal no challenge was too difficult. Carol always uplifted people's spirits by taking time to listen. Carol loved spending time with her grandsons Dallas and Corbin. She especially enjoyed going to all of their school activities and athletic events. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions. Carol is survived by her husband Glen Smith, mother Donna Frisbey, her two children Matthew Leonard and Stacey Adamson (Richard), sister Susann Mercer (John), brother Jerry Frisbey (Nona), sister Bonnie Kulas and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father RGW Frisbey. Services will be held Sept. 5, 2008 at the Union Fort 6th Ward, 6710 S. 1300 E. at 11 a.m.. Friends and family may attend a viewing on Sept. 4, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. located at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., SLC and from 10-11 a.m. at the ward prior to the services. We love you very much and you'll be in our hearts daily. May we all live up to the wonderful example you have set for us to follow.

I taught with Carol at Altara Elementary School for 3 three years. She was a light to my days and could always bring a smile to my face. She helped me out of her abundant wealth of ideas for teaching Social Studies one of those years. Perhaps my one of most precious memories of Carol was later when I lived in Gold Beach, OR. She took the time on her vacation to track me down. Then they came and had lunch with me and my family. Living there was an extremely lonely time for us and having her come for a visit was something I will treasure always. After moving back to Utah, I had gotten in touch with her and we had meant to get together for a visit. So it came with such a shock to hear that she had had cancer and passed away. So, to her precious family, though you never knew me, I heard countless stories of a proud mother about you. I pray that you will allow Him to comfort you during this time. May He uphold you with His hand as He covers you with His wings. With many prayers and thoughts of you, Anita

Stacy, thank you so much for introducing your beautiful mom to me. I loved when she came in to get her hair done. What a beam of sunshine and laughter she was. I always looked forward to seeing her. She would always make me laugh and she was always so positive about life. And she loved to talk about her beautiful children and grand children. She was so proud of you Stacy! I will forever miss and cherish the time we spent together. She was such a beautiful spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

What a privilege it has been to have known Carol. She is caring, compassionate, fun-loving and one who enjoyed life. She added a great dimension at Sprucewood Elementary. She loved her students and those she worked with. Her positive attitude made a positive difference. I have also known Carol when she was a member of our ward and served as the Relief Society President. Her soft and caring approach uplifted everyone. Carol will be truly missed. Thank you for sharing your mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend. With Sympathy.

Carol seemed to brighten every path she came across. She was a good friend--always a smiles. I am forever grateful that our paths crossed, not only for the gift of her friendship, but of her daughter, Stacey's.
I was amazed at Carol's strength, courage, faith, and sense of humor as she fought her battle with cancer. We love you Carol and can't wait to see you again.

From the day Carol came to Sprucewood Elementary it was a brighter place. It is seldom we meet people that have such a sweet spirit and a never ending smile like Carol had. She had a sense about her that could calm the people around her without them even realizing it. I am so glad we were able to meet each other.
Thanks, Carol, for being a part of my life.

I only knew Carol for a short 6 months but during that time she touched my life with her testimony and amazing personality. During those appointments when I did her nails, we had such great talks about life and the gospel. She inspired me to never be afraid to accomplish anything. I really admired her for her determination. She was always so optimistic... even about her cancer. Everytime the subject came up she would just smile at me and say she felt great and was taking it one day at a time. She told me she was not afraid to die because of her faith and testimony. I will never forget that. Glen, you were so good to her. You are a true angel. I will miss her but never forget her. I am sorry for your loss as a family. I will keep you in my prayers.
