Bryce Wolverton Obituary

Bryce G. Wolverton "Wolfman" 12/4/1946 ~ 9/1/2007 He was the King of Cool. Always. Incredibly tough. Born in Vallejo, California to Hayden and Goldie in 1946. His life started with a bang and rarely softened to a whimper. Bryce was creatively rebellious, witty, handsome, sincere, very outgoing and a good friend to many. He had fun in school but mostly out of school. After moving to Utah, he graduated from Tooele High. Then, Uncle Sam had a rumble in the jungle on the other side of the world and Bryce was just the kind of guy they were looking to draft. "You want to raise hell? We'll send you there." The TET Offensive was about to start in Vietnam. Hell was never hotter and Bryce saw it all. On his 21st birthday, he lost 11 friends in one ambush. It was a time to cry - "The worst day in my life," he wrote in his diary. He too was hit, but he was lucky. Even in hell, this rebel remained cool. He got his medals, soldiered on, and completed his tour of duty. When he returned, times had changed. Bryce married his high school sweetheart, Kristie Colledge and they raised four kids: Erin, Megan, Brenna, and Bran. He had a job in mining and then found a 32-year career with the postal service. After 24 years, Bryce and Kris divorced, but remained friends. He later met and married the second love of his life, Debbie Spivey. Bryce enjoyed movies, golf, skiing, live music, the Blues, traveling, watching his kids play sports and spending time with friends and family. For 12 months, Bryce lived with and fought the challenges of asbestos induced Mesothelioma. He passed away in his home on September 1st surrounded by loved ones. Preceded in death by parents and brother, Todd Wolverton. Survived by brother, Brad Wolverton, his wife, Debbie, his four children, Debbie's three children, nine grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews. Visitation on Fri. Sept. 7th, 7- 9 p.m. and Celebration of Life on Sat. Sept. 8th, 10 a.m. at Wasatch Presbyterian Church, 1626 South 1700 East, Salt Lake City. At Bryce's request a free CD will be given to the first 100 mourners. Interment at Tooele Cemetery following the Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, please contribute towards a memorial gift at Red Butte Garden by visiting www.redbuttegarden.org in the name of Bryce Wolverton. Memorial gift to be dedicated on a later date.

Bryce and I met in the early 70's at the downtown P.O. We had some great times together. We talked sports and music and he was a worthy opponent on the softball field. I'm glad he enjoyed his retirement and I'll miss him at the concerts.

I will always remember Bryce. I will always remember him as a kind hearted, humorous man. The "Co-Captain". It was only one month ago, while battling his own illness that he spoke at my mothers funeral and brought my family great comfort in hearing such kind words spoken of her. He truly was a great person. I thank him for the friendship he shared with my Dad. What an incredible loss, please except my sincere condolences. Terree Myers.

We will deeply miss our nephew and cousin Bryce. He was always considerate to stop and visit his aunt and uncle in Vancouver, WA on his fishing journies with his buddies on the Oregon Coast. We will remember him at our upcoming family reunion. Our love to the family!

We District Court employees in Sandy and (later) West Jordan have enjoyed our association with Bryce over the years. He worked (PT) as a runner for various law firms in the area and he was always very pleasant and fun to talk to (and of course, was always full of "spunk"). We will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Debbie, we will miss seeing you with Bryce at concerts and get togethers. I wish we would have had more time to get to know Bryce. But the short time we talked and played with you and Bryce, we could tell what a great man he was. I know for sure that he loved you, his sweetheart! Love you Debbie you are one of the strongest women that I know. It has been a pleasure knowing you for all these years.

My condolences to the family. Bryce and I were drafted together and went through basic training together at Ft. Bliss. What a character and what fun we had together. I have been telling the hilarious stories about Bryce and basic training all these years and non stop.
May God be with Bryce and his family.
