Walter Scharf was a great father and a fine man. I was telling my wife last week ,that he treated me to my first pizza when I was in school with Joy. I judge a person by their family and his was reflection of him.

Walter, was a great person that touched the lives of many people, but none more than all the children that he spoke to in all the schools. I watched and learned and tried to follow in his foot steps. He is a person that will be missed so very much. Our prayers and thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow.

I did not know Officer Scharf personally, but I do remember him from my days in Gillette Elementary. I did however attend Kingsborough Middle School at the same time Gary was there. Gary was one year ahead of me. I had the utmost respect for Officer Scharf, and I will always remember that military style flat-top hair cut. He was a very nice man. My sincere condolences.

Pat, you have my deepest condolences. You may not even remember me, but we were in PJ's together a long time ago. My sister who still lives in SA sent me the obituary. The Scharf family was a member of the same church we attended. Please extend my sympathy to all of them too.

On behalf of the Schaal's, we send our love and prayers for peace and comfort ~ the peace that passes our understanding ~ to our old friends from years at St. Paul's. The SCHARF family stories are still in our minds [old as they might be], still bringing smiles; we hope those memories bring solace to all of you.
