René Alonzo Obituary

René Soto Alonzo went to heaven to rest in the arms of his loving savior on 6 April 2008 at the age of 38. He was born on 28 April 1969 in San Antonio to Enrique and Bertha Alonzo. René had a love for all he encountered and possessed unbelievable charm and charisma. He believed whole heartedly in giving back to his community and it was this desire to give unselfishly, which drove him to serve on the Windcrest City Council from May 2005 to May 2007. The years prior to this, he lived and traveled extensively throughout Europe with his wife and daughter where he also served as an Ambassador for the Air Force as a representative on the Ramstein City Council and was featured in the Air Force Times for his many contributions to the area servicemen and their families. René was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and became a certified German Jagermeister during his stay abroad. It was there that he was happy to share his love of the hunt and the outdoors in a land he grew very fond of. René was a man of many interests and he truly loved playing the guitar. He taught himself to play the guitar at a young age and for sure has already signed up in God's band. René previously owned his own businesses and worked at USAA. His most recent undertaking was the restoration of the old Luxello Hall. He graduated from Central Catholic in 1987 and attended UTSA where he studied finance. He is survived by the loves of his life; the apple of his eye, his precious daughter, Hailey Rene and his wife, Lisa Alonzo. He is also survived by his parents, Enrique and Bertha Alonzo; brother, Henry Jr. and wife, Martha of Bulverde; brother, Roland and wife, Kathy of Helotes; brother, Ralph currently working in Iraq; sister, Norma Cazares of San Antonio; niece, Yvonne Jimenez of San Antonio; numerous other nieces, nephews and friends; too many to mention by name and best friend Brad Nelson of Tyler, TX. Visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2008, 3:00 P.M. at Mission Alamo Funeral Home, 624 N. Alamo St., with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 12, 2008, 10:00 A.M. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church with a procession leaving the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. Interment will follow at San Fernando Catholic Cemetery II. Serving as pallbearers will be: J.D. Davis, Jerry Silvers, Ed Colbert, Jeff S. Holub, Arturo Robles, and Ernest Enriquez. Arrangements are with: Alamo Funeral Chapels.

My heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your loved one. I knew Rene from Luxello Hall. Some friends and I happened upon the hall one night thinking we were walking into the Hanging Tree. The place had just had a private Christmas party and they were cleaning up, but Rene was so warm and welcoming. He invited us in for a cold beer and aplogized about how cold it was in there. He then told us all the stories about the hall and even gave us the grand tour. We loved the place and this man from that first night. We have been back a few times, but not recently. I am so saddened to not have spent more time, he always remembered you when you walked in the door no matter how long it had been. It's pretty amazing that you can know someone for such a short time and feel such a great loss.
He truly was as wonderful as all these people are saying he was.
