Lucille Langford Obituary

Lucille Evelyn Treybig Langford, Ph. D. Lucille Evelyn Treybig was born in Yoakum, Texas, on August 31, 1919, and moved to Austin, Texas, in 1933. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Eldon W. Langford. She is also preceded in death by her parents (Bernhardt Heinrich Treybig and Althea Rogers) and siblings (Bernhardt Treybig Jr., James Treybig, Daisy Treybig Brandl, and Dr. L. Bruce Treybig). Lucille is survived by two sons, a daughter, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Alan Langford and wife, Ruth Daniel, and their daughter Emily Langford Bennighof and her husband, Bryan and their precious twins, Nicole and Auburn; Brian Langford and his daughters, Natalie and Michelle, and wife, Barbara Dittmann; Dr. Lauren Langford, and her husband, Dr. John Delayre. Lucille, a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, came from a long line of Texas pioneers. She grew up listening to great-grandfather Leonard McCrea's, (husband of Bette Burleson) pioneer stories of the Runaway Scrape and Indian raids in their old log cabin in Central Texas. Lucille had an exciting and full life. After Lucille graduated from Austin High School in Austin, Texas. She attended The University of Texas in Austin where she met her future husband, Eldon W. Langford. She received a B.S., M. S., and Ph.D. in Geology from The University of Texas and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She worked as a micro-paleontologist, reared Alan, Brian and Lauren, and even taught bilingual (Spanish/English) education - all before women's liberation! She traveled 'round the globe, played the pipe organ, and wrote prose and poetry. Lucille was a witty, creative, enthusiastic, spontaneous, and feisty red head. She always had a giggle, an idea, a solution, and never gave up! Special thanks to Drs. Raymond Harle and Charles Roeth's expert medical care over the years. Many thanks to family friend, Persi Rivera, and caretakers, Lupe Rodriguez and Rosemary Flores. Respect and gratefulness to our pallbearers: Lt Jairo Saenz (Texas Department of Public Safety, Special Crimes Service); William Stannard (Chief of Police, Balcones Heights); Robert de la Garza (Assistant Chief of Police, Balcones Heights); Patrolman Karen Switzer (Balcones Heights Police Department); Detective Robert Acosta (Balcones Heights Police Department); Sergeant Salvador Onofre (Balcones Heights Police Department).
