Jim Webb Obituary

Jim Webb Age 66, a committed husband, avid outdoorsman, and gracious host, left this world on Saturday January 17, 2009. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on July 4, 1942, Jim's entire life was underscored by a passion for adventure and physical risk-taking which he lovingly and patiently nurtured in his wife, Mary Modaff, who survives him. She often heard Jim declare: "I wanna go out with my hair on fire!" He was an experienced pilot, passionate sailor, practiced golfer and skier, and avid hiker, proudly "bagging a fourteener" with his wife, Mary. He was also an enthusiastic horseman and respected professional, as comfortable in a business suit as he was cowboy boots and jeans. Jim could often be found at the barn with his horse, "the Harvester," always accompanied by the family dog. Jim attended Catholic University, graduated from New Mexico State University, and did post-graduate study at the University of Southern California. He served six years as a captain in the Air Force. When asked about his duties in the military, Jim would laughingly quip "If I told you what I did in the Air Force, I'd hafta kill ya!" His long career in the field of Management Information Systems utilized Jim's innate ability to creatively solve problems. Always a diplomat, Jim developed thoughtful relationships with his clients, many of whom maintained connections with Jim over the years. Jim is survived by his wife; his brother Steve; and sister Monica and their spouses and children. He is also survived by his wife's sisters and brothers: Kathy, Jim, Beth, Jeff and Meg; their spouses and children; and by many work associates and friends. Per Jim's request, there will be no visitation or service. His wife, Mary, asks that, in lieu of flowers, friends and relatives share memories of Jim at www.vistosomemorialchapel.com. Donations may be made to a favorite charity in Jim's name.

I just read of Jim's passing! (aug.10,09). I am in shock! I can not remember not knowing him. I lived on Gildersleeve. For many years I have been trying to find about him. We were so close, as were our famlies. Last Oct., I made contact with Butch Croshaw and he gave me a little info. Right now, I have a knot in my stomach and my heart is heavy. I was not prepared for this! Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. Phyllis Bain Benia Salazar

My condolences to all Jim's family and friends. I remember Jim as one of the first to welcome me as a new student to SFHS. He treated everyone well and was a good classmate to work with.

Mary, my heart aches for you because I know you are missing your soul mate. I only met Jim a couple of times, but when he would call the office and have me leave you a message, I could hear it in his voice how much he loved you. "Tell her she is my sunshine." "Tell her I miss her." Tell her I love her." Short and very sweet. You giggled like a school girl when I delivered to you his messages. How cute is that?? He wants you to be happy now and forever! Do you think Jim will be looking down to see if there is a "glow" radiating from your hair being on fire? We will be here for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Gina

To the family my deepest condolences for your (our) loss. Jimmy was a good friend all through Jr. High (Harrington), SFHS and the Demon Den a time or two.He was a straight A guy who never rubbed it into those of us who weren't and always available to ditch school for an afternoon for a quick escape to the ski basin. Drive on Jimmy. I hope all the inside turns are wide open.
