In August of 1944, he was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Lincoln. On May 19, 1957, he was confirmed at Mt. Hulda Lutheran Church of rural Cole Camp by Pastor O. Heimsoth. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cole Camp.

In 1962, he graduated from Cole Camp High School and later attended an automotive body repair school in Kansas City. For a couple of years, he worked as a body man at W-K Chevrolet in Cole Camp. On April 3, 1964, in Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Allee, who died on June 9, 2009.

Until his retirement, Donnie owned and operated Don's Body Shop in Cole Camp. I meet Sharon in 1989 at the college. She and Donnie and I have remained friends every since. I will miss them all. It really breaks my heart to know I will never see them again. Just last summer I met them to watch Taron sing twice. I loved the look on Donnie's face. He glowed.

I met Donnie and Sharon for the first time about seven years ago. They were very gracious to a stranger. The proud parents of a wonderful little girl. Donnie taking the time to giving me a tour of our ancestrial "home place" will always be with me.

I met Donnie on one of Taron's karoke contests. He was so proud of her and always encouraged her to do well. They will all be sadly missed--- but i'll always remember the smile he had on his face as Taron sang Suds in the bucket....
