Jean Andrucki Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 7, 2001.
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Why waste time on TV when you could read or bike or help somebody out? Jean Andrucki did not even own a set. Instead, she played on two Irish women's teams: soccer on one and Gaelic football on the other. She kayaked with her 3-year- old nephew. "She's paddling," said Laura Andrucki-Izzo, her younger sister. "And he's belting out 'Row, row, row your boat.' That says it all about Jean."

Her job was doing risk assessment for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. After hours, Ms. Andrucki, 43, was usually either helping to care for developmentally disabled children or elderly neighbors in Hoboken, N.J., or she was jogging or hiking. Her passions were nature and animals ‹ the wildlife of South Africa and Peru, which she visited, and of Hoboken, which she fed. "The squirrels would climb seven floors to her terrace," Ms. Andrucki- Izzo said.

"She loved animals and gardens and writing and poetry," she continued. "She had a British heart. But it was more Oscar Wilde than Jane Austen. More a smart, tough American woman with a soft spot."

My family and I finally made it to NYC and we visited the 9/11 Memorial today. I was honored with holding your name up on the 10 year remembrance of 9/11 at AT&T Park in SF. Since the completion of the memorial I vowed to make the trek and find your name. I found it on N66 and I took a photo. Never forget

Through out my ups and downs with my career, I´ve often lived by `what would Jean do´. At the ended of my time with the PA, I am grateful for your decision to hire me. Most of all, for showing me your integrity, leadership, honesty ,ethics, and drive. Even though I am retired now, I will never forget you.

To Jean,

I walked with my grandchildren around the train station in Metuchen where there is a memorial to those who died in 9/11. We found Jean´s name and I told them both what a wonderful, strong, caring person she was.
I miss her often.

Twenty years Jean.
That you have never been found still devastates me.
You disappeared. All I can hope for is that you actually didn't. That your incredible energy is out there, doing something else. You were someone who searched, who had to learn and improve and grow. Maybe you'd grown enough in this life.
Onward and upward... If anyone has moved onward and upward, it's you. I know you're out there, and hopefully you and my mum - one of your besties - found each other out there, and are having a laugh and moving forward as you always used to.

You are truly missed.

Cheers Jean.
With love always, your friend, Diane

I still think of you so often Jean. As did my mum - until the day she died she told stories of the two of you and your adventures! My last visual memory of you is wearing a different coloured nail polish on every finger. Only two days before 'that day'. I thought of you leaving this world with those pretty fingernails... They typified you, and your joy for life. I know that energy can't ever die. Wherever you are, I send you love. x

There's this movie called Hope Floats and a quote from the movie about life and death goes like this - "The beginning is usually scary, the end is always sad but it's what you do with the middle that's important". Jean did a lot with her middle and most of all she was kind. When I got promoted to supervisor and was handed 12 contracts to administer nobody at my facility would be kind enough to explain anything to me. I told Jean about it and she immediately said "come by tomorrow afternoon and I'll go over everything you need to know". Because of her kindness and effort I was able to provide the Port Authority with the kind of contract administration that they deserved for 20 years. In a nut shell it was just how she was- kind, generous and simply nice. I have never forgotten her and the pearl bracelet she always wore on her arm. That bracelet was her signature piece of jewelry. Nicest person I ever had the privilege and honor to know while working for an Agency that was lucky to have her and extremely sad to loose her. She is missed and will never be forgotten.

Jean,
Much has changed since that day in September. That big stereo you lugged from NY back home to NJ can now fit into your pocket. Women sports are catching up to men (but still have a long way to go) Not only would you have been first to cheer the women's soccer team ticker tape parade on Broadway, you would have convinced us to be there as well. Cannot imagine how many nontraditional vacation spots you would have visited. Can imagine your friends' surprise when you tell them that their Christmas gift was a donation to Heifer International. On this day, I am taking liberty with a Dr Seuss quote: don't cry because she's gone, smile because she happened. Your sprit continues to touch us even in your absence.

It's been two years since I took part in a 9-11 walk, and was assigned your name. This year I took a ride on a steam engine train. They stopped the train, observed a minute of silence, and then blew the old time whistle. There was not a dry eye on the train. Sent a prayer your way.

Hello! My name is Jeffrey Sirk Sr. On Wednesday 9-11-2013 I was one of the riders in the 2 million Bikers to DC ride. When I signed up for the ride they handed out stickers with the names of the fallen from 9-11-2001. I was fortunate enough to ride for Jean! It was an incredible honor to have had her along with me on this ride. The sticker with her name on it was placed on the very front of my helmet and with permission I would like to keep it there.Even though I never had the pleasure of meeting Jean I can't help but feel as though she was on my bike with me! The ride was great as we circled the Capitol Beltway around Washington DC!My thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family and friends.May she Rest In Peace!

Every year I attend the Hoboken Memorial, leave flowers and light a candle for her. I don't know what made me look her name up today but I am so happy I did. Today is a day to celebrate her life and reading all of these messages it is so wonderful to continue to learn about her and how she was so loved. Thank you for sharing her life -- she will always be rememered cherished by all. I will forever celebrate this day for you Jean.

How nice to see all of these people who didn't even know Jean adding notes and bearing her name in memorial services. Thank you so much for remembering our Jean.

Jean certainly has not been forgotten by those of us who were counted as her friends. She is unforgettable. She was a crack up, a force to be reckoned with. Challenging, witty, smart as a whip, inspirational - and extremely caring. A spirit like Jean's cannot disappear, it stays with us who knew her (and now those who didn't) in so many ways.

December 2, 2011

To The family,
It's not often that we learn of persons who are busy helping disabled children and the elderly. When God brings an end to this system of things the resurrected Jean A. Andrucki will not have to worry about terrorism becuase all violent acts will be things of the past.

Sincerely,
Mr. Terry, a bible student

I can't believe Jean is gone 7 years today. She was such a beautiful person both inside and out. We knew each other from playing soccer and gaelic football together, both of which she played brillantly. We had many a good evening practicing or playing together followed by a few sociables. Jean always had a smile on her face and a good word to say.
One of the last times we met was at my daughter Emmas Baby shower and this morning I had the pleasure of telling Emma a little about Mommys friend whose life ended seven years ago today. I often think of you and your lovely family to whom I again send my condolences

Well Jean it is going on the 7th anniversary and I still don't know what to write. I thought there would be no more grief in out family but I guess I was seriously mistaken. You helped me through 1 of the toughest times in my life when my husband died and I have needed you since that and you were taken from us. The pain and sorrow never seems to get any easier not having you here. You never got to meet my daughters but know that my middle one is named in your rememberance. Your mother and I call her "Little Jean" She is so very much like you. I miss you so very much.

I still cannot believe you are gone. The day Laura told me I did not want to believe it. I didn't know what to say to her and to this day I regret that. I saw everything unfold on t.v. and in newspaper articles but it was all so unreal. I took a ferry ride during my visit to NJ two summers ago and it hit me. It hit me HARD. The towers are gone. You're gone. I mourned for the loss of your life and I mourned for your family. You were SO full of life. From the first time I met you I felt like you welcomed me. I will never forget the day you came into the grocery store I worked at to buy cat food. I was upset over something going on at home and as you handed me the cash you put your hand on mine and told me it would be ok. You didn't ask a thousand questions but yet you know exactly what to say. At that moment I knew things would be ok, things will work out. That small little sentence gave me hope. I will NEVER forget you.
