I remember waking up at your place in the Old Port Monday July 2, 2001 and saying goodbye before I flew to LAX. We had made plans to start going on vacations together again. Thanks to Ralphie for making sure we reconnected. It's been 40 years since our first Grateful Dead concert together now. Be well on the other side, my friend, and I will hang with you again soon. I'm 57 now, but you get to always be 42.

Spent some time yesterday with my brother at his house. He just celebrated his 60th birthday last month. Hard to believe we are all getting that old. Got a chance to play guitar with him for a few minutes. Had a long drive and lots of time to think about things. Thought about how precious a sibling is. Thought about you and what it would be like to still have you around this neck of the woods. Thought about us going fishing, and how we never got that chance. Thought about all of those who still miss you so much, especially your family. Rest well Jim, knowing that the memories of you will NEVER fade away.

Dear Jim, On September 10, I was packing up my office files for a move, and I found an amazing, beautiful, and heart rendingly sad file of photos and memories of you shared amongst your Bowdoin buds at the time of your passing. September 12, 2011
Dear Jim,
Yesterday, something unusual happened to me. I was caught up in the September 11th Memorial services for the very first time since 2001. This was very strange. As I watched the images of the victims family members on the screen, my heart raced, my pulse quickened, and occasionally my vision became blurred. Then your name was read. It was a big man that read your name from the roll-call, as is done every September 11th in New York. "James Michael Roux", he said in a strong, deep and steady voice. I imagined the man that read your name to be about the size of you. I had to step away for a moment and wipe my eyes. Then, I had to stop watching altogether and went for a long walk with my wife on a beautiful bright September afternoon. For most of us we take these little things for granted, but yesterday was a reminder of why we should not. I think of you often and when you appear in a dream from time to time you always call me “Mendy”, so I am assured it is you and not an imposter. Having known you is an honor. Your friendship made a difference in my life and yesterday you kept right on doing that. Thanks for serving as a reminder of how much we all have to be thankful for, even though these days it may not seem like so much.
This morning, I found this site (again) and read through it all. I did find a short note I posted in early ‘02 and a couple since then from old friends. I found the one from your sister Donna and a more recent heartbreaker from your sister Sally (the original “raver”) which made me cry again. My brother still stays in touch with your brother David from time to time. I hope Mary and your Mom are still doing well. More than anything else, it is hard to imagine how difficult it must be for all of them.
I still have that Gibson SG from back in the day that you always borrowed when rocking with the “Gorillas” at Bowdoin frat parties. I hope to keep it with me forever. I never pick it up without thinking of you and what a gifted, funny, great human being you truly were. Yes, I agree, when they made you they broke the mold. You will not be forgotten.
Rock on…

Jim,
I know how much Hendrix meant to you. These many years later, I still can't get past listening to recordings of his playing the Star Spangled Banner without choking up without thinking about your son playing it at your service. He did his dad proud that day. Big time. But on the anniversary of another's death, so close on the heels of 9/11, your day, I'm reminded of the song that got me through. To live on. To drive to your funeral. To live. Imagine. I can barely listen to it without thinking of you and that awful time.
God bless you.
I hope you and Russ are having a great time in Heaven. God grant that it will be a long while before those that all those who dearly love you and him will join you one day.
You're always in my thoughts, my heart and prayers.

Hi Jim,
It has been 7 years since you were taken away from all those who love you. I think about you often, especially each year on Sept. 11..each year on sept 11. i do a little memorial on my porch with candles next to your photo's that i had and also photo's of my Aunt Janis that was on flight 11. Yes. I lost two people on that horrible day. My Aunt was on her way to California with her fiance Don. They were going to elope. I hope you are keeping an eye on each other. Jim, when I went to your office in Portland you had given me a film to develope. it was of your trip to nepal. I waited one year before I had it developed. Only because i didn't know how i would feel. The day that i had it developed at Rite aid, I actually broke down in the parking lot. i am so happy that you were part of my life, even though it was only for a short time. I have some good memories of the times we did have together. I remember our last conversation which was in July. you were a good man Jim. I will write again. Love Diane Beaulieu

Jim where do I start? My name is Sally and I am Jim's little sister. We grew up in the same house and we became such good friends as we became adults. I loved your laugh and the way you would play with Sierra. You were not above getting down on the floor at her level and talking to her. I miss a brother, and a friend so much. You would be so proud of your boys, they are such handsome and responsible young men. I have two other children since you have passed. I hurt everyday that you are gone. It was so senseless and cruel that you were taken on this day. I do a memorial hike up mount Washington every year in your memory around the anniversary. Many of my friends join me to remember. I love you so much and miss you so much. Keep on smiling and laughing, you were the best.

September 11, 2002
Dear Friends and Family of Jim Roux,
My name is Alyssa Hext and I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am fifteen years old and I attend Divine Savior Holy Angles College Prepatory High School for girls. Being the anniversary of the terrible events that took place just one year ago, this morning we held a prayer service with our entire student body to mourn the losses and pray for the future of our country. All of the students were handed out programs for the service and inside was a label and a ribbon. On all of the labels were a name, age, and location of one of the victims from the September 11th attacks last year. At the end of the service we were all told to notice the websites on the back of our programs. They told us to go to the websites and look up the name on our stickers and read about the person and their story.
Obviously the name that I recieved on my label was Jim Roux. I know that I didn't know Jim or his friends or family, but somehow by this activity I feel connected, and want to do everything in my power to help.
My personal connection to the 9/11 events is also pretty strong. I was born on Long Island in New York, but my family moved back to Wisconsin before my fifth birthday. Although I may not be too close to the tragedy, I felt the affects becuase it hit my parents so hard. My dad's best friend lives and works in NYC and has spent practically every work day since last september working at Ground Zero on the rescue efforts. This thanksgiving actually me and my family are going for a trip out to New York to visit friends and get a glimspe of what the city has gone through since the tragedy.
I hope that all of you are doing well, and if there is anything I can do to help in any way, please contact me. Thank you Jim for being brave, I'm sure that you are greatly missed and loved.
Love and Support,
Alyssa Hext

Family and Friends of Jim,
As you all know, today is the somber anniversary of 9/11. Jim called our firm looking for employee benefits for the law firm he just started. Jim's only concern was providing a superior plan for his 2 employees and pet insurance. After talking about benefits for a while we must have talked about Joshua Chamberlain for an hour or more. He showed me his Joshua Chmaberlain pen which I always had to see when I visisted him.
Jim was one of more my difficult clients. I mean this not in a bad way but a good way. He had lots of fun putting me through the ringer but engaged me in a way that has only helped my thought process. I respected Jim not only as a client but also as the father he was to his sons. I offered him hockey tickets on three different occassions and each time he said "Jason nothing personal but I want to hang out with my kids."
As 9/11 goes by lets remember not what we lost in Jim, but all the positives he is asking each and everyone of is to reflect on as each day, week and year go by. Jim thank you.

Attorney James M. Roux, like all of those lost to us in the September 2001 tragedy, was, and, to my mind, still is, a real hero... We will never know the true extent of the profound bravery shown by all who died on that fateful day, in their final minutes... By taking courage from his life, we honor his death. He was obviously an extraordinary man. My deepest sympathies extend to those who knew him best.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-

We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Jim,we met when you became my neighbor. Your blaring loud Neil Young and Jimi Hendrix would keep me awake at night. Fortunately, I loved your taste in music. Then you were hired to be my attorney, and won my "Davy and Goliath Struggle" which most said could not be done. Along the way we became friends. Good Friends. We shared moments that we hadn't shared with others. Youwere always the generous, listening ear; offering advice but not imposing your opinions on others. Perhaps the most kind-hearted generous soul I know. You defended the underdog and usually took no comensation for it. How ironic that this generosity is what prompted you to take the flight that fateful day. I called your cell phone for days afterwards, leaving long, rambling diatribes that I hoped you would miraculosly hear. You were a true prince; a true friend and you are missed daily. My wife and I smile thinking of you daily, and cry thinking of you nightly. Goodnight, sweet prince, please rest knowing that you are, and forever will be, loved and admired.
