PENSACOLA, Fla. - Kenneth "Russ" Mantle, retired USN, age 70, of Pensacola passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Springfield and graduated from Lanphier High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1956, where he was a master chief avionics technician and later assumed the duties of Naval Air Training Command Force master chief. He served during the Vietnam War and received many awards and decorations.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Erma (Hohimer) Mantle and A. Russell Mantle.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gay (Logan) Mantle; their children, Glinda Mantle, Karen Charboneau, Andrea Comeau (Chris) and Janice Jacoby (Richard); brother, Don Mantle (Marilyn); and grandchildren, Kristin Charboneau, Seth and Zac Comeau, and Joseph, Matthew and Patrick Jacoby.
Kenneth expected the best from himself, as well as from everyone else, and challenged them to do their best. He was greatly accomplished because of this and well loved by all who recognized his good intentions.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Pensacola, with Monsignor Michael Reed presiding. Burial with military honors will follow in Bayview Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little Flower Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 3009, Pensacola, FL, 32516.
