My family and I frequently travel to Taylor's Fall, and along the route thereto, we see a sign honoring SO2 Spehar. I decided to google the man's name, who I intuitively knew had lost his life while defending others. By EVERY account, SO2 Spehar was an exceptional man, and I wish merely to say thank you to his family for the service he gave to all of us, and to also express my deepest condolences.

I had a balloon land I my flowerbeds it had your sons name on it my son found it researched it He said mom when I got out of my jeep I found a balloon in the flower bed So I researcred the name He said he looked at his clock I the jeep and said that is when he died . As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!

Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.

The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. I have never meet you, but know Fr. Jeff Huard very well. My prayers have been with you and will continue to be with you during this time of great loss. As mentioned by so many others Nicholas paid the ultimate price. He truly embraced his faith, by laying his life down for ones friends. It's easy for me to say I pray you will feel the love of Christ around you during this great time, but yet you may feel he is miles away, but in reality He is most present to you in those who are helping hold you up during this great time of loss. Be assured of my continued prayers for you especially in the days and weeks to come.

Our deep condolences to your family on the loss of your son, Nick. We know you through your brother, Fr. Jeff Huard. We also have a son in the military, training for Marines Recon now, and I can only imagine the grief you experience. But I want to thank you for raising such a man and for instilling in him the desire to give his all for this country. He now prays for you, his family, as he enjoys his rest. I'm sure he heard those words, "Welcome home, good and faithful servant." God bless you all.

I did not know this young man personally but I am emotionally moved after reading his obituary and would like to extend my condolences to your family for your loss. I have a son only 2 years younger than this gentleman and I have been so excited to hear of him buying his 1st house which is quite a milestone for someone of 22 years but then I read about what your son has accomplished and I am literally speechless. What an incredible young man, such drive and compassion for his country and the armed services which he clearly loved with everything he had in him. It takes a pretty special person to give of themselves in the manner he has.
Too have such compassion for mankind, too serve to protect them alot of times with little or no thanks really says alot about a persons character. What a wonderful young man he transformed into, how very proud you must be. Blessed be your memory of him may it never fade and forever shine brightly as his spirit surely will.
God bless you and keep you in your time of greiving, please know that his service and heartfelt passion for life and protecting life is not going unacknowledged. I thank you for sharing his story, Rest in peace young Seal - I will forever remember your sacrifice.

Annette, Pat and family, you are in my prayers...Losing a brave and wonderful son like Nick I cannot begin to imagine your grief. He was and always will be a Hero in every American's heart. May God continue to hold you tight as you go through this horrific loss.

I can only imagine the grief! Then, the reality of our faith, the treasure trove that is the Catholic Church and in particular the Communion of Saints give solace and consolation. Nick lives --- forever.
