Hi Corey! You were one of my dads best friends in the army. he tears up every time I bring it up. I have never seen that man cry unless I talk about you. You meant so much to him and I just wanted to appreciate you this veterans day.

I'm still here, brother. I remember, after all these years. I'm sorry I'm a day late, life got in the way, the way life should have gotten in the way for you. But yesterday I placed your band around that Cav shotglass, with an M855 round in it, on the "Bug" patch.

And I stood, and said "For the everlasting glory of the Regiment!" and drank it down. I'm sober now, but for you, once a year, I make an exception....

Hey brother, its such a cliché to say "hard to believe it's been six years now" but I don't know what else to start this with, so, hard to believe it's been six years now. Wise men wonder, while strong men die. See you at Fiddlers Green, brother. Brave Rifles.

I feel selfish for missing my friend every day for the last four years, when his mother and family and his wife have lost so much more than me. Everyday I wish I could do something to bring you back even if it was only for a day or an hour or a few minutes so that you could talk to your family one more time or tell Celeste how much you love her. You'll always be in my thoughts and memories as well as Celeste and Joy and Steve. Until we meet again....

Prayers for Coreys family and keeping him in my thoughts. Today is such a hard day for a lot of his brothers. I'm writing this on behalf of all the brothers he served with, especially his good friend Kevin Martin. Kevin is one if my best friends and I know he misses him every single day. Prayers to Coreys wife, family, friends and fellow soldiers. We love and miss you everyday.

It was an honor to serve with SGT Corey Spates. I never knew him well, but it was impossible to not be impressed by his competence and bravery. He was 3 years younger than me and a shining example of the type soldier I could only hope to one day emulate. He always placed duty first, looked out for his fellow soldiers, and commanded genuine respect from subordinates, peers, and superiors alike. SGT Corey Emmett Spates - He will never be forgotten. Its been too long since a comrade of Corey has posted on this site. I just wanted to say I think of my friend and Brother in Arms every day, the bracelet I wear on my wrist reminds me. I wore it to Afghanistan, and it was with me thru all times, good and bad. Miss you Brother, see you at Fiddlers Green.

Corey was the first buddy that my son, Norman introduced me to. I liked him right off and grew to love him. When we visited the bases they were stationed at, he always called me Mom. He loved you so much Joy, but I will admit, I was proud he felt comfortable enough to call me that. He is missed so much and he was such a unique, compassionate man. God bless his family and Corey will never be forgotten.

To Corey's loved ones, I'm very sorry for your great loss. I am from LaGrange myself. I am now in Phoenix, AZ where I am in Army. Couldn't believe the news when I heard? it. The first and only I believe death in this war from LaGrange. I did not know him personally but I remember his service and sacrifice on my KIA Bracelet. God bless you guys and him. Thinking of you so much this week. To My Son SGT Corey Spates,

As a mother, I knew that I would have to face alot of things raising boys, but never this. I miss you so much, and things have changed for us so much. I know that God was gracious enough to bring you into my life to start with. You were so precious. Our lives are beginning to take on a new normal without you. We miss your blue eyes shinning and that smile. God has graced us on this journey, it has not been an easy one. I have to put all my faith in God to continue to guide me on this journey. Some things have not turned out as you or I would have expected them to. You were a special blessing to my life and I can only praise God that you were given to me, and it was an honor to be your "Momma" for 21 years. God is so awesome, and he has a set journey and a destiny for our lives from conception, we have to put our trust completely in him. I truly have always loved you and I always will love you,

Proud to have been your Momma,

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Dear Family and Friends,
I would like to offer my sincerest condolences. I cannot begin to imagine the loss and pain all are going through. My nephew is a United States Marine and serving in Iraq. We all pray for him and his comrade’s safety every day. War is a horrible reality. I salute and I am proud of all of our troops and their bravery to protect our freedom and serve their country with honor. Freedom is not free.
With deepest regrets and sympathy

March 4, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My deepest sympathies go out to Celeste and all of Cory's family. I taught Cory when he was in 9th grade at Troup High School and I will always remember his energy and enthusiasm for life. I am so proud of what Cory accomplished during his time in the US Army. That he was able to develop his leadership ability and become a Sgt. at such a young age is a testament to the ability he had. I appreciate his willingness to serve our country and forever grateful for his sacrifice. My prayers are with his family and friends. May you find comfort in knowing that our Loving Father welcomed him into an eternal kingdom where there is only Peace.

I am so very proud that I had the honor of being one of Corey's teachers at Long Cane Middle School. I suppose it's the ambition of every teacher to think that he was able to touch the lives of their students in some way. More often than not, it happens the other way around. The lives of teachers are touched by their students. Corey was such a student. He impacted the lives of everyone he's ever been around. I will always remember him in front of a mic and a camera as he anchored LCMS News on the school closed circuit system. God Bles Corey's wife and family. I may not know my own name at 3:30 each afternoon but I'll know his when I see him again.

I never had the honor and priveledge of meeting Corey, but my cousin (Norman) spoke of him often. He and Corey have served our country side by side over the past 4 years. There are no words to express the appreciation and respect that Sgt.Corey E. Spates deserves. A simple "Thank You" just isn't enough. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. My heart aches for his family, friends, and Celeste. May God bless and keep his arms wrapped tightly around this family.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.
