Lerando J. Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2008.
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - An Army National Guard soldier from Poplarville was killed in Iraq last Friday. Sgt. Lerando Brown was shot in the chest and killed in Balad, his wife, Candice Brown, told the Sun Herald on Tuesday. Lerando Brown, 27, was a member of the 288th Sapper Co., based in Houston, Miss. He is at least the 60th military member with strong ties to Mississippi who has died in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last five years. Candice Brown said she was informed of her husband's death Saturday, about 36 hours after she last talked to him. "I couldn't do anything but cry," she said of her reaction to the news. "I couldn't believe that. I was like, 'I just talked to him Friday morning and this cannot be true.'" Candice Brown said she won't forget the silly faces her husband made to make her laugh, the 25 Christmas letters he sent from Iraq to first-graders at her school, the constant reminders through phone calls and e-mails that he loved her, and that she was his Cinderella. "There is a part in my heart that is gone because that part of my heart ... was him," she said. "The biggest part of it is gone because he's not here." The funeral is scheduled for noon on March 26 at Harts Baptist Church in Poplarville. "It has been rough," Candice Brown said. "I have to take it day by day. I have the Lord on my side."

To the Brown Family, I don't know you in the physical but I know you in the spirit. My prayers are with you all at this time. Words cannot express what you are feeling, only GOD can mend the brokeness you hold so deep within. Sgt. Brown's mission has been accomplished with great honor for his country. I pray that I will be able to make a difference before my time has expired on earth. His journey is very familiar to the journey of one man that came more than 2000 years ago to Calvary to save us all. Sgt. Brown was predestined to do this mission, and so was Jesus. Sgt. Brown was a part of the greater great and Jesus came before us all to teach us the way. Sgt. Brown was ready to take "IT ON", with such honor as the Holy Spirit gave utterance. Sgt. Brown was among the few good men to accomplish such an ending and with Jesus by his side, he shut his eyes and died.. I would like to take this time to thank him for his sacrifice for my life as an American. Thank the family for their sacrifice as well. Thank you for sharing a part of your family with us.
Remember a seed must die in the soil prior to the order of production to transpire. We must pick up where Sgt. Brown left off by upholding his mission on earth. Exemplifying his character of servitude. Leaving you with John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends".
My son was active military and died at the age of 19 years. I can identify.
Sgt. Brown will always be with you in spirit. I can assure you of this. I experience it often and it is awesome to know of love this way.
God keep you all...

To the Family and Friends of Sgt. Brown Jr.: I would like express my heartfelt condolences to you all. As a mother of new soldier (less than 1 year) I can only imagine what you all are going thru. My son was in elementary when this war first started and now he is in the Army preparing for war. Years ago I was totally against allowing my sons joining the military during war time. But God has a way of changing hearts.

I would like to leave you all with this gospel song "Encourge Yourself"

Candice,
I worked with you at the Lower and I am so sorry to hear of your loss. A loss is so hard to deal with, I know I lost my mom last year, but as time passes you will remember the things that made him smile, or the things that he did that made you smile. You will smile when you think of the good memories that you shared. Your husband is a true hero and everyone is very proud of the service that he offered the USA. I pray for you and the rest of the family. I pray that it will be easy to remember the good times and put behind you this tragedy. I pray that God gives you the strength to deal with this tragedy. I didn't know your husband personally, but you could tell from his picture that he couldn't have been a happier man. I know he always made you smile because you were always cheerful and bubbly when I seen you. May God Bless You and the rest of the family.

I took the time to read all of the wonderful words of encouragement for the family of Sgt. Brown and also looked at the photo album. Treasure the memories that are in the photos from your wedding day to fun times shared by Lerando and DeQuincy. During your time of sorrow, these memories will no doubt bring a smile to your face and lift a heavy-burdened heart. The Lord promises in his word..."I will never leave thee or forsake thee." Hold on to this promise.

Thanks for the ultimate sacrifice paid by Sgt. Brown in serving his Country so we can all enjoy the freedoms that we take for granted in America...Home of the Brave.

May God Bless You and Comfort You until we meet Sgt. Brown and our Savior, Jesus Christ on the Streets of Gold in Heaven!

I wasn't blessed to meet Lerando or the Brown family while I still lived on the Coast but I know I would've found him to be an exceptional young man of the highest charachter. His loss in the duty to his country and the defense of freedom is tragic to his family and to our nation. I will remember his beautiful wife and wonderful kids as well as his many grieving family members, friends and fellow service members in my prayers. He is a genuine hero. My husband's nephew leaves for the Marine Corps in May and we pray he's befriended by someone as courageous, kindhearted and steadfast as Lerando as he serves his country.

God bless you all. I know that Lerando is an angel wrapping his loving arms around his family, keeping them safe.

Candice,

I can't even imagine what you, you're in-laws and your step-son could possibly going through. I want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. You will get through this, it may just be little harder to do than most things but you will do it, I believe in you. You have always seemed like a strong person to me. When my father was in Iraq we prayed everyday for his safe return and there are days you just don't know. Luckily we did have him come back to us but we will never forget those that didn't. We appreciate your husbands service and I believe that your husband truly is a hero.

May God Bless You, Sergeant Brown, for your dedicated service to your country. You have given the most ultimate sacrifice, and you will be greatly rewarded in Heaven, wrapped in the arms of God. I only wish I could have had the privilege to have known you and your wonderful family, but I plan to go to Heaven someday, and will try my very best to meet you then. There aren't enough words to say regarding the humility that I feel in my heart for your life which you have sacrificed for the good of this country. May God Bless your family also.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Sgt.Brown. I had the honor of working with him at the 155 Hiller Park Armory. He had a big heart and held his family dear. He was a fine young man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

To the Brown family. I want to offer my sympathy to you in this time of great sorrow. I am sure you can take comfort and know that Lerando is being comforted in the hands of our Lord.
As a member retired from the Mississippi Guard. We use a acronym that I think describes the Guard. it is T-G-I-F. which means The Guard Is Family. So from the guard family God bless you and your family

To the Brown Family, the Grace Temple Baptist Church Family will be lifting you up in prayer. We Loved Lerando, he was apart of us as well. This was truly an unexpected tragedy, BUT I rejoice in the fact that I WILL SEE HIM AGAIN! Right now he is safe in the arms of Jesus. We love you family.
