I just saw about Cpl. William Lloyd McMillan III on a Facebook post July 8, 2021, by Seal of Honor. Seeing Cpl. McMillan's smile in his photo really got to me. 13 years ago, seems so long ago in these long wars, yet on the other hand seems like only yesterday. My sons served as Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan during the surges for both countries. They both made it home. Many of our troops who made it home are suffering from mental and/or physical injuries. Thank you Cpl. McMillan for your sacrifice. God bless his family. I did not know him personally.

I saw a memorial to your son on the Nancy Grace show a while back. That is when I remembered going to grade school in Clarkson, Kentucky with another William McMillan back around 1976. I wondered if you were the same family. Me & my daughter, who is 12, appreciate deeply what your son and his friends do for our country. I am so sorry for your loss and wish there was something I could say that would offer comfort, but at a time like this I know that is not possible. My prayers are with William's wife & all of you. Thank you for the freedom we enjoy here in America. God bless you all.

First, may I say that I am truly sorry for the loss of your husband and son. It is never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, and you have my heartfelt sympathies. I would also like to say "thank you" for raising a son who loved his country so much that he was willing to put his life on the line for me and my family, so that we might continue to enjoy the freedoms of this country. After reading his story, I see that your husband and son was the epitome of an American soldier, and my family and I appreciate his sacrifice and yours. May God pour down his richest blessings and comfort on you all at this terrible time. May He wrap His arms around you and allow you to feel His love. Again, thank you and God bless.

My name is Teresa Cochran and I too am married to an Army Medic that just returned from Afghanistan. We have been doing this for 19 years this month. We have 3 beautiful daughters. I want you to know that my heart hurts for you all and my prayers are fervently going up for you right now as we speak. I thought that we would get to the end of his Army career with no deployments and no wars and now we have 2 behind us. I never dreamed we would have to go through this and I never want to again but the chances are great as he re-enlisted for 6 more years while overseas. That is how I know what you mean when you said; "It was in his blood, as if he were born to do just this." I believe your husband, son, loved one had a servants heart and that is what God has commanded us all to have, some are just better at it than others. I thank you for your loved one and for his sacrafice. I thank him for his servants heart and the desire to want to keep my children safe here in America. His sacrafice will NEVER be taken lightly by this family and you all will remain in our hearts and our prayers always. From one military family to another we say HOOAH! And GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

To the family and parents of William I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

We would like to than everyone who has written to us about our son Bill. He found his calling in the medical field as a combat medic and prided himself in doing a good job. He was so happy that he had found the love of his lifeElizbeth and treated her with the utmost love and respect. He was a very caring son and a very thoughtful brother to Lauren and Brad. Most of all Bill made you laugh. There wasn't a converation that went by that he didn't say something that made you smile. The day he was born the obstetrician said in the delivery room - that baby is smiling and he continued that until the day he died. We will miss him terribly but we have some very funny stories and great memories to get us through this. Thank you again to everyone for their kind words about our son. Lloyd and Marge McMillan

As a physician and former member of the US Army Medical Corp, I would like to salute Specialist McMillan for his sacrifice and extend my condolences to his family. In the gospel of John 15:13 it was said "Greater love has no one than to lay down his life for a friend." SPC McMillan has done this for us and I'm sure that I speak for all soldiers when I say that we would gladly have done the same for him. My wife and I stood by the highway and showed support for a fallen hero today. The turn out alone should reveal to you how special he was and how much that he has affected people around him. He is greatly appreciated, greatly loved and no doubt will be greatly missed. God Bless You.
