Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Rodriguez Family know that we just made a small donation to the Military Working Dog Team Support Association in honor of Gregory A. Rod Rodriguez US Army Sergeant 1st Class. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Unreal season this year. Coyotes finally get ownership but don't make playoffs. Your Wings got blasted out of the first round by the Bruins.
I'll down a beer for you and your Dead Wings tonight.

Your going to be rolling on this one. For the first time in years, no probably a century, your Red Wings are fighting for the #8 seed to make the playoffs with the Coyotes nipping at their heels.

Hot Rod,
Not a day goes by without thinking of you bud. I miss the old days of Aloha Fidays drinking beer and playing Hockey on the Playstation.
I'm so proud of the Soldier that you became and it's a shame we didn't get to work dogs with each other before I had to leave the Army, we wouldve had a blast.
I miss you my friend, and someday the Coyotes are going to beat your damn Red Wings. Cheers to you my friend, put in a good word for me.

April 28, 2011

Not a day goes by that you are not thought of. The Wings swept the Coyotes in round one and face the Sharks for round two, starting tomorrow! Not bad for a team of old guys, eh!? Enjoy a cold one with the BIG MAN, and put in a good word with him for me, would ya? http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs/2011/columns/story?columnist=lebrun_pierre&id=6439333

Miss you brother, more than you know. Rest easy man and know that I wear your name around my wrist to honor you everyday. I bet your laughing your butt off about that. You know you always used to sing "in heaven there is no beer" if there is I'm sure your having your share. Thanks for being my friend and brother in arms.

Laura Rodriguez, I don't know if you remember me but I so remember you and Greg. I spent so many awesome times with greg and the gang in Hawaii. I am very sad to see this happen to a great individual who I will always consider my friend. I was stationed with Greg from the beginning in December 1996 until I PCS'ed to Ft. Bragg, NC in 1999. We were in 4th Platoon 58th Military Police Company. You both went to my wedding. I am SFC Daniel Yentsch and I am currently in Kandahar Afghanistan. This is my 3rd tour and I have been in for 14 years of service. I think about Greg often. He would brighten the room with his sense of humor and I remember him walking out of his room in the BKS in Hawaii wearing his Detroit Red Wings Hockey jersey. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Please feel free to keep in touch [email protected]

I am deeply sadden that you left us to be with a higher power. You will never be forgotten in the K-9 world. I knew Greg from DTS at Lackland, we had some really good laughs there. Even right now it puts a a bitter sweet smile on my face of all the funny stuff we used to do. You will always and forever be missed.

In Memory of Gregory Allen ~ (Debra Estep)

December 17, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Gregory, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family of the roaster, He was not only a excellent solider. But one of my closest friends. I worked with him at 341 TRS Lackland AFB, TX DTS and I am deeply saddened by your loss. Know that he will live on in all the hearts of the people he touched. He always knew how to lighten a dark day by breaking the ice by doing something crazy and making us all laugh. He was an excellent handler and trainer. He was a excellent leader and always had the soldiers best intrests at heart. From all the K-9 Handlers at Kunsan AB. Some gave all so others may live.

To the family and parents of Gregory I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you

i just wanted to tell you how deeply sorry i am for your loss. i met ROD in ansbach/germany, where he worked as a doghandler with my boyfriend sgt. harris. i got a chance to meet him, and have to say, that he really had a way to touch peoples heart. he was very funny and would always joke with people from the kennels, but was also always out training with jacko. i hope that his family will have the chance to adopt jacko as a member of the family. i know how much of a companion he was to ROD, ever since he showed me how crazy jacko gets when rod would walk up to his kennel. it was a funny sight!
please accept my condolences.

I just finished watching the tribute to Greg and it brought me to tears. I was a member of Greg's graduating class in high school so I was shocked to hear of his passing. I wish the best to you Laura and your 3 beautiful children. Everytime they watch that tribute they will be reminded of how much their dad did for everyone.

Greg will always have a special place in many peoples heart. I have many special memories that make me laugh looking back, like Greg driving through Burger King Drive-Thu back wards, pushing his car that didn't run in the rain and screaming our lungs out at a Red Wings game. Greg was the type of friend that seemed to have a 6th sense about his friends, it seemed when ever they were in need he was there either in person, on the phone or with an email. His loss has been very hard, but I can honestly say I have felt him around me providing comfort, like he always did. I am forever grateful for his friendship and service to our country. To his family-thank you for sharing him with everyone and please know that he is considered a Hero by his country. He will forever be watching over you and know that his love for you keep him going during the hard times when he was away from you.

To the family of Greg: i went to high school with Greg and he was a very nice caring soul. there werent many of us minorities but greg was part of our little group and we had the pleasure to prank greg! he would look at us like 'you guys are crazy' and kind of process in, and laugh later! one memorable time was when greg gave us all a ride home to our horror and gave us a thrill!!!! we slammed him and always made him remember the roller coaster ride! thank you greg for making a difference in our lives and for protecting us, our children, and our country. you will forever be remembered.

Dear Laura:

This old Army veteran - your friend - is deeply saddened that Greg has been taken from you. As a friend, nothing I can say here and now will add to what you already know regarding my sentiments and condolences. But as an Army veteran, I want to ensure that you always remember this: You are forever part of an extended family, one far bigger than the active Army family you already know so well. That family will always be there for you, and for the beautiful children that you and Greg brought into this world.

With Love and Deepest Sympathies,

Alex

SFC Rod and I were in the same SSD class together. Rod was the type of NCO that anyone could talk to and relate with. I was on leave from Afghanistan when Rod was KIA and didnt get the news until I got back in country. Rod will be missed by many and remembered by all. I'm honored that I have had the chance to know Rod and met his family.

To the Rodriguez family may the Angels watch over you. For Greg's kids your dad is a hero.

I had the honor to know Rod in Afghanistan during the deployment he lost his life on. He became a dear friend, and a hero I will never forget. He touched my life in a very special way. I spoke to him the morning of his last mission, and as always he was ready to go and do his job to the very best of his capabilities. He was an outstanding dog handler and an even better person. My fondest memory of him on this trip was every night when I would run around the track, he would be out there with his dog Jacko training to adapt to the IEDs out there, and every time I would run by him, he would cheer me on which kept my motivation to keep going. To his family, I pray for you daily and am deeply sorry for your loss. Rod was an amazing person to know...and I am honored to say that I knew him and called him a friend.

thank you also for helping make a name for us handlers.

September 20, 2008

I don't know if the Rodriguez family will see this or not but I sincerly
hope they do. I was there on this sad day when "Rod" as he asked us to
call him died. Rod was truly passionate about his job and was always
doing all he could to improve the abilities of Jacko his dog. Any time
new IED techniques came out Rod would train Jacko to still be able to
find any IED set in with the new techniques. I'm writing this though so
Rods' family and the whole world understand just how much of a hero he
really was that day. I can't tell the whole story on here but Rod saved
my life that day and ensured I would make it home. After I had aleady
been wounded that day Rod on multiple occasions placed himself in harms
way to protect me and prevent me from being wounded again. Rod truly is
a HERO as he saved my life and gave his own protecting me as I was
already wounded. Rodriguez family I hope you see this and see he truly
is a HERO. My heart goes out to you.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Greg, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation, a nation in mourning for our fallen hero’s. You like so many other sailors and soldiers chose to serve our nation when needed most and with your life you protected the very core of what America stands for. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also made that sacrifice on 5/6/2008 when he was killed in action in Iraq. As I mourn for my nephew I mourn for you and so many other brave soldiers and know that you all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, we as a nation will never forget you. I stand tall and salute you Greg and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for the nights we at home could sleep without fear and know that we are safe. To the Rodriguez family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Gregory and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Please accept my heart felt condolences and my prayer that god help you cope with this tragic loss and may the memories of your HERO carry you through each day. From one Gold Star family to another!

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

I am new to this site, my Marine is scheduled to deploy next week.
I did not know this soldier personally, but feel it is important to support each military loss, as a family member, regardless of personal connections.
The fact that Gregory's death comes at what is considered a down time of danger in Iraq is especially sad.
I am so sorry for your loss, and thankful for his dedication to our country. Standing for our country, steadfast, without hisitation, is very brave and noble.
Thank you for being one of the brave and standing for our freedom.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt1c Gregory Rodriguez our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Greg. And to Greg it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Greg, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Greg’s family and loved ones.
