Benjamin H. Todd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 30, 2009.
Benjamin H. Todd discovered a love of flying at age 9, when he flew in his father''s gyrocopter and ultra-light plane, and "the exhilaration of being in the air stayed with him," said Terry Williams, a family friend. Todd, 29, of Colville, Wash., was killed Jan. 26 when two OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters crashed in Kirkuk. He was a 1997 high school graduate and was assigned to Fort Drum. "He was high-spirited and kindhearted," said Williams. "He was kind of an unassuming guy, not a big talker about himself." Todd grew up the oldest of three brothers, rode dirt bikes and four-wheelers, played high school football and joined the local Search and Rescue unit as a teenager. He told family those search and rescue skills helped after he joined the Army in 1999 and went into training to be a Ranger. Todd served two tours in Afghanistan with the Rangers, including the first which was shortly after the 2001 terrorist attack. "It didn''t harden his attitude about life. He was still an easygoing guy," Williams said. Todd is survived by his wife, Shelly, and daughter, Ashlyn.

Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Benjamin H. Todd US Army Chief Warrant Officer.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

To the family of Army CW2 Benjamin Todd on Memorial Day 2014:
My 13 year old son and I travelled to Long Island, NY this weekend to volunteer and run in the 7th annual US Marine Corps Cpl Christopher G. Scherer "I Did the Grid" 4 Mile Run on May 24 in East Northport, NY. This run is in honor of Cpl Christopher Scherer who was KIA in Operation Iraqi Freedom on July 21, 2007 and all the fallen who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Each runner has four names of fallen service members on their bibs. We were asked to think about and pray for each fallen hero for one of the four miles of the run. CW2 Benjamin Todd's name and service information were on my son's bib. It was a privilege to run in his honor. CW2 Todd is in our hearts and prayers this Memorial Day. God bless. Sincerely, Polly Papsadore

Re: CW2 Benjamin Todd

Hello,
I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 2,800 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 240 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

You should be receiving a quilt from Freedom Quilts real soon if you haven't received it already. It is our way of saying we care and we want to bring you some comfort. Shed your tears on your quilt wrap yourself and let it be arms wrapping you with love and comfort. OUr deepest sympathy for the pain you now carry with you. We thank you for being into this world a hero that stood tall and gave of himself for others. I know a mother would rather have her son in her arms safe instead of burying him and dealing with a pain like no other pain. We are here if you need us if you need to have someone reach out and pray with you for strenght my email my dear is [email protected] my website is www.freedomquilts.net the quilts are for all the parents and spouse that have lost a love one since September 11, 2001 that is when I started this project and that is why I'm still at it. With total honor and respect these quilts are made for the families that lost so much just so the rest of us could enjoy freedom.

Benjamin, god bless you soldier and thank you for your service to a grateful nation, forever we will mourn you and all of our fallen heroes both before and after you. On 5/6/08 my nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward was killed in action in Iraq while on a routine patrol. My promise to him was that I would never forget him but also those fallen before and after him. When I made that promise to him the day we laid him to his final resting place I did not realize how often I would need to make entries on Legacy and it just breaks my heart knowing that so many other families have and will continue to feel the pain that our family has endured. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. Todd family from the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

Shelly, Ashlyn and family,

I am very saddened by the loss of your husband. Benjamin is an American hero just as my son is and many others before him. The honors our grateful nation has bestowed upon Benjamin provide little solace at this time, but may later ease the pain with the assured knowledge that he will be remembered always.

Many will tell you they do not know what to say. Many that have penned condolences on these pages, myself included, have the sad honor of saying "I know how you feel," and mean it.

It is said that time heals all wounds. I pray this is so. Although Benjamin, Matthew, Philip and Joshua were not raised as brothers, they died as brothers. All the heroes in the heavens have closed ranks around them and declared them as one of their own. Few of us ever have that honor.

To the family of CWO Todd,
I send you my deepest condolences on your loss. Times ahead will be bumpy, but remember his smile everyday and hold him close to your heart. I lost my husband in November in a crash as well. He too, was Kiowa pilot. If there is one thing I can say about them, they LOVED their job, and they died honorably. OUT FRONT SIR!

My deepest condolences on your tremendous loss. My son is in the Navy and I can't imagine what you're going through. Please remember you're not grieving alone, other military families feel your pain. Chief Warrant Office Benjamin Todd was truly a hero and without brave men like him, America would not be the great country it is today. God bless you and bring you peace in your time of need.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to CWO Benjamin H. Todd our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Ben. And to Ben it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Ben, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Ben’s family and loved ones.

To the Todd family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Benjamins' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
