Ezra, I didn't know you, but you knew my husband Warrant Officer John Taylor... He was on the helicopter that day with you... I dont know much of anything about the crash, I've never asked, I just dont know how to deal with it. He lived but someone else didn't, and that someone is you, and it hurts me so... I just want you to know that I think about you ALL the time. I look forward to meeting you one day. Until then.... FLY HIGH....

Hey Ezra Dawson,AKA Roach, What's up! Just sitting here during the holiday weekend laughing and talking crazy with the family and missing yuo. I remember all the times we played surrades and especially Monopoly. When we would bust you cheating and your crazy explaination was, "Mom, If you ain't cheating then you ain't trying." (lol) I would say "Boy, you are too crazy! Of course I would pop you right on the head. I said it then and now once again, Moma loves you. I will always keep you dear in my heart although we are apart.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,000 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and want you know that everyone here at Project Compassion does and will always CARE.

Ezra,
Known to me as Vegas. Words can't even began to express the hurt I felt when I got the word of what happened. The perfect soldier who did what was asked & never questioned it. Helped others even when they made him mad. But most of all my best friend, more like the brother I loved with all my heart. Thank you for all the times you were there for me, as well as all the good times we had all over Texas. I'm still going to take that trip to Brazil we wanted to take when you got back & will make sure I leave a part oof you there. I love you always & forever bro. Rest in peace.

Ezra,
Although we met only one time in Vegas 2002 at the Farr Family reunion, you were my first cousin on my father's side and tears come to my eyes because I did not know you. But as we spent the weekend together all I can honestly remember is that you made me laugh! As I turn the pages and see how very special you were to people in your life and how your memory still moves on, I feel sad. Sad because I was not able to grow, play or share my life with you. I will try not to make that mistake with my children and your sisters. I am proud to say your sisters and I will close that gap. I am getting to know them day by day. Your mother's twin (that's what they call me Little Eva). Rest in peace.

Ezra you would have turned 32 this on December 9th. I remember telling Amir when you left that you would be back by this Christmas. It is unfortunate that you had to go over there but what is done is done. I feel your presence more than even now. I thank God for you, Ezra. I feel lost sometimes about why you had to endure so much at young age but it feels good knowing that you were able to spread your energy across the world even until death. I will see you on the other side. I will always love you. Your big sis Atarah

Showtime-
Showtime is what we called Ezra for a nickname. He was always ready to get the job done and do whatever was neccesarry to get it done. My comrade, my friend, my brother. Many past memories course through my mind and every one I have of you puts a smile on my face. I can still hear the sound of your very laugh in my head. You have made me a better person and I will never forget you. I will honor you always as a brother.

You should be receiving a quilt from Freedom Quilts real soon if you haven't received it already. It is our way of saying we care and we want to bring you some comfort. Shed your tears on your quilt wrap yourself and let it be arms wrapping you with love and comfort. OUr deepest sympathy for the pain you now carry with you. We thank you for being into this world a hero that stood tall and gave of himself for others. I know a mother would rather have her son in her arms safe instead of burying him and dealing with a pain like no other pain. We are here if you need us if you need to have someone reach out and pray with you for strenght my email my dear is [email protected] my website is www.freedomquilts.net the quilts are for all the parents and spouse that have lost a love one since September 11, 2001 that is when I started this project and that is why I'm still at it. With total honor and respect these quilts are made for the families that lost so much just so the rest of us could enjoy freedom.

Ezra, God bless you soldier and thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation and for paying the ultimate price for our freedom.. You are now in great company with God and so many other fallen heroes before and after you. On 5/6/08 my nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward was killed in action in Iraq and my final promise to him was to never forget him and our fallen hero’s, we will never forget their commitment and sacrifice. To the Dawson family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Ezra and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

To the parents and family, I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to heal you as He gives comfort to you today.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt. Ezra Dawson our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Ezra. And to Ezra it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Ezra, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Ezra’s family and loved ones.
