Steven M. Langmack Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 3, 2005.
Growing up, Steven Langmack used to act like a tough guy. Then he became an Army Ranger and Green Beret _ and he didn't need to act tough anymore. "When he went in, he decided he was going to be a Ranger," his brother David said. "If he was going to do it, he was going to do it the best he could." Langmack, 33, of Seattle, was killed May 31 by small-arms fire in Qaim, Iraq. Gregarious and outgoing, Langmack and his wife, Rachaelle, lived on a farm in Raeford, N.C., near Fort Bragg with their sons, Sam, 16, and Carson, 7. He played baseball in high school and enlisted after graduating in 1990. He had been in the Army for 15 years, serving in the Gulf War and in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was an expert paratrooper and once belonged to a precision skydiving team. In e-mails to his family, he didn't talk much about the war. He focused on his wife and children and the home renovations he planned when he got back. "He was always upbeat. He felt very committed to what he was doing, but he wouldn't talk about it," said his mother, Louise Langmack. "He felt it was an important job."

Remembering you, Steve, with love & laughter! I often think of the time my husband & I took you & Wendell to dinner at an old tavern. We had so many laughs throwing darts & just being goofy. Wendell was leaving for the Navy in a month & you for the Army a month after him. We are all so very proud of your accomplishments & think of you often, not just Memorial Weekend. Luv hugs n may God continue to Bless your family with strength, courage & peace...

Steve was the first 1st BN Ranger to greet me upon arriving in Savannah in 1992. He was hanging out in the rear during a deployment of the rest of the BN. What a day to remember. Needless to say, I had to get a new set of Class A's after he was done with us. Thank you for that Steve and thank you for your service. Your picture shares a wall in my home along side of Fernandez. You two are heroes and will never be forgotten. Thank you and we miss you. David Zamora A Co. 2nd Plt, 1992-93

Dear Paul,

I came upon your son's obituary when researching our family tree. My mother is Mary Patricia Bresnan Mullen. Clare was her Aunt. When I saw your son's picture I thought he looked like a Bresnan. I am so sorry for your loss. He looks like a true heroe. I'm going to print his picture to show my mother today. I'm sure she will be saddened whether we are related or not. Cathy Mullen Coyne

To the family of Sgt. 1st Class Langmack,
Please know that just as your loved one will remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

In Memory of Steven ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Steven, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Steve,
I remember the day we met at Seattle MEPS when we both wanted only to be Rangers. We ended up going through all of our training together and shared a single dehydrated beef patty MRE with Steve Love for Christmas dinner in 1990. You stayed with my family and girlfriend over family weekend and I still watch the video and remember the good times. You are greatly missed and I am so proud to say that I was a friend of such an outstanding soldier, husband, father, and brother.

He died so that our own children could do the same.
I'll never forget him, and I'll make sure my family never does either. Thank you Steve.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

I am deeply saddened to hear of Mack's passing and I send my sincerest condolences to his family. He was a great and brave man who served with pride and pushed others to do the same. I went through Airborne school, R.I.P., and was sent to 1st Bat with Mack for the first two years. We went to the Persian Gulf together and some of my fondest memories in the military include Mack. He was like a brother to me and I will never forget him.

I served with Steve when we were both young Rangers (89-93). I got out and he stayed in to continue to uphold the high standards and professionalism of a "special" soldier. I remember many training missions in Ranger Bat with him and many beers consumed. A babyface and a true warrior. My sincere condolences to all of his family. His sacrifice is not forgotten, he would want us to "Drive On!"

Sincerely,

Todd Victor
