Hi Scotty,
It's mom again. I'm sitting here thinking about you and know that I love you with ALL of my heart and I miss you more each day. The hurt never goes away and it only gets worse day by day!
On a brighter note, you have two beautiful nieces that love you and they know you are their Guardian Angel. Beth is doing well, and I know that you would love her husband, Kevin. He loves hunting and fishing as much as you did. I'm sure that I've told you before that your youngest niece is named after you, Mylie Skott. I love the way Beth spelled Scott with a "K" instead of a "C". You would love Madalyn and Mylie as much as I do. They are athletic and very intelligent. I guess I'll go for now. I love and miss you more than I can express in written words.

Scotty this is the 14th Christmas I am spending without you and it is killing me. Christmas was probably your favorite holiday. You and Beth always went for your stockings first. They held so many treasures. Your nieces, Maddy and Mylie do the same. I think they would be content just getting their stockings from me. I have shed many tears this month remembering things like scavenger hunts where you had to follow clues to locate a special Christmas gift. I'll never forget the look on your face and your joy when you discovered your first gun. Not too long ago, Matt gave me a pic of you and the gang at the camp in Pocahontas Co. There was a Bambi across the fence. I'm sure you remember those hunting trips. I will forever cherish that pic. My precious baby boy, I love and miss you so much!! Time has not made the hurt any easier and not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I keep a little toy soldier on my mantle to remind me each day to pray for all of our soldiers. I look forward to the day that we are reunited. Have a wonderful Heavenly Christmas with all your family there with you. Give your Nan, Pops and Uncle Jerry a hug and kiss for me. Tell them I love and miss them as well. Many hugs and kisses I'm sending to you. xoxoxoxoxo

Scotty,
Oh how much you loved Christmas. It was probably your favorite holiday. As I sit here remembering the 23 Christmases we had together and the way your eyes lit up when you would finally get to the end of the scavenger hunt looking for your big or special gift brings tears to my eyes. I miss you so much and would give my own life to be able to bring you back for your sister. You would love Beth's girls, Madalyn and Mylie Skott...yes she is named after you. It's scary how much she is like you!! Both girls love Uncle Scotty stories. It gives me much comfort to tell them about you and your antics. I just want you to know how much you are loved and missed. Merry Christmas in Heaven my son. XOXOXO

Son, seven Veterans Days have come and gone and I miss you as much on this Veterans Day as I did on Veterans Day in 2005. Today,in our little church, I was given a certificate (the same as the Veterans that were there) in memory of you and the sacrifice you made for our great country. This morning, Beth and I had a hard time getting through the church service with you not being there with us, but God got us through. I know in my heart, come judgement day, we will be reunited in Heaven. Son, I love and miss you sooooooo much. XOXOXO...Mom

It has been five years.. I still see it like it was yesterday. You are in my thoughts all of the time and I wish you were here. That day, I believed we would all come back. We had breakfast. We took pictures. You warned me to keep my head down as we drove on to that road. I miss you and you will always be perfect in my memory...

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Scotty, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Friend,
I am an eighty-two year old veteran of World War II and my heart has ached each time I have learned of a wounded or killed US Military Service member. Thus it is, that our family genuinely hurts with your family in the death of Scotty. He died pursuing the noble cause of securing freedom and liberty in America, Iraq and beyond. For his honorable service and supreme sacrifice, future generations will be eternally grateful.
Every night, I literally and sincerely pray for the families of those fallen heroes who have given their last full measure of devotion in the defense of our country. We know you have suffered a great loss. Yet, when time has softened the severity of this blow, your many pleasant memories of Scotty’s life will be a source of great comfort to you. You remain much in the thoughts of all patriotic Americans and my God richly bless the Ulbrich family
There is another aspect of this sympathy note. In the May 2004 issue of the American Legion Magazine beginning on page 43, there was an article entitled Portraits of Heroes. Kaziah Hancock, an artist offered to paint a portrait, free of charge, of service men and women killed in Iraq. She is quoted as saying, “ I do this as an act of love, from one American to another.” Apparently, the portraits are painted using a photographs as a model. As indicated, this information was noted in the American Legion Magazine three years ago, but since other artists have joined her to form the Project Compassion, the free painted portraits may still be available. Since no risk would be involved, an inquiry regarding the gift of such a lasting memorial would be something the family may want to consider.
Kaziah Hancock can be contacted for additional information.
Telephone: (435) 835 - 9429

I have no interest in this matter, other than a desire to inform West Virginia families of fallen heroes that such a treasure may be theirs for the asking.
You may write or e-mail me your home address and I would be glad to provide you a copy of the American Legion article.
Sincerely,

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

Scotty, you will never be forgotten. You were a true friend! You were a very kind hearted and gentle young man. You always knew how to put a smile on anyone's face. The times that we got to share with you will never be forgotten. They will be cherished forever, I promise you that.
Ms. Ulbrich and Beth, I will continue to say a prayer for you and the rest of your family and those privileged enough to know Scotty. He was one-of-a-kind and truly a wonderful person and I'm so proud to say that he was a good friend of mine here at Marshall. I know his life was cut so short, but there is no doubt in my mind, that is he up in heaven sharing with the angels what he shared with so many of us down here on Earth. He is making them smile and laugh until they cannot smile or laugh any longer. He is gracing them with the person we all fell in love with. We will forever be proud of him and will never forget the great sacrifice he made for our country.

To the family of Brian Ulbrich:
My prayer for you is that you will be greatly blessed by God through Jesus for the ultimate sacrifice Brian made as a soldier and the sacrifice you have made and continue to make as his family. May you be comforted with the wonderful memories of Brian and by the Lord Jesus through His Holy Spirit.
My heart aches for your heart. I am the mother of two sons serving with the 130th ANG Airlift Wing in Charleston. Both sons are home presently, but each has served five rotations in various locations supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. One son (who also served in the first Gulf War) is preparing to return. I have heard comments from both sons upon their return. Because of that, and remarks from other service members my belief that what our country is doing to be what is necessary for our continued freedom has been confirmed.
Brian's sacrifice was for a good cause. Thank you Brian and thank you family for making it possible for him to serve his country.
In Christ,

To the Family of Brian Ulbrich,
Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice of your son, brother, and loved one. I too know how it feels to lose someone you love under these circumstances. Too many times Americans neglect to think of those willing to give their lives to protect us and keep us safe. The dedication shown by Pfc. Ulbrich and his willingness to stand up for what he believed in says a lot for him as both a soldier and a person. Again, thank you Pfc. Ulbrich. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. May God Bless You! I will continue to ask God to give you comfort and strength during this time.
