Hello,
We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We have recently sent Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Douglas E. Kashmer US Army Private 1st Class.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Hey Kashmer,
I remeber alot of things about you. I remember when we were deployed and all those crappy meals we had to eat in the defac together and I remeber all those late night card games me, you and Curry after we got off late from the motor pool.I remeber Kashmeria and makayla playing together at the battalion fun day back in Mannheim before we got deployed. You were a good friend to me. Most of all I remember when we were all picking out our leave days and we both wanted the first and second week of June and you let me have it because it was going to be makayla's 3rd birthday. Me an Sgt. Shaffer got married the day you died. June 8th of this year made 4 years for us. I have no doubt that if one thing that day was different we wouldn't have switched dates and you wouldn't have been in that truck. It's hard to live with that. I never got to say good bye so I'm saying it now. There's not a day that goes by that I don't remember you and you'll always be my friend.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Douglas, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Doug and I would always be in competition with each other over who could do what on a PT test and we would always bet on stupid little stuff like "if i bet you on this pt test coming up you have to buy me an ice cream from BR" i have some sleepless nights of seeing him and seeing the whole situation and the way it went down that night and it scares me because i feel like i could have done something to help him if i saw it just that much sooner than what i did... i will always remember him

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I knew Douglas as SPC Kashmer. I was his Battalion Chaplain and I do remember his contagious smile and his friendliness. Doug had a kind and posive attitude that to me set him apart from his buddies and made him an excellent soldier. We all grieved for him at his memorial ceremony in Kuwait. My comfort is my belief that he is in the very presence of Our Lord and Savior.

Doug - You are greatly missed by all your family and friends. When I received the news, I refused to believe it and didn't want to realize that God had taken you into Heaven. Words cannot express how much you will be missed. You always knew how to make others laugh and known as being the jokester. You were a great friend to many and a good father. I'll never forget the times we shared! You truly are a hero and will never be forgotten. We miss and love you!!!

Doug-Wow, I never ever thought I'd be writing to you in this situation. We had some great times! Beth and I were just talking about the night we graduated and how schnookered you got us LOL I know we lost contact over the last 5 years but you were always in my thoughts. I guess you always take for granted that someone is always gonna be there and that you have all the time in the world to see them. I guess this proves a good lesson. I miss you. When I heard you were gone it hit me like a ton of bricks. All I could think was If only I had taken the time to call. I'm not sad for you, Doug, you are in a better place...happy. I'm sad for me, for our friends, your family. You always knew how to make us laugh, make us feel better...always had the right thing to say. I'll never get used to you being gone. Until we meet again you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know you will watch over us and keep us safe. You truely are a hero. YES I CAN JUST IMAGINE YOU BLUSHING RIGHT NOW! Anyway We love you, Doug. :O) I'll never forget the awsome times we had together and you know there were plenty LOL XOXOXOXOX Beth sends her love as well.

I did not know PFC Kashmer but was still affected by his loss. I was one of the soldiers that helped to put him on the plane on his journey home last week. I was deeply saddened by the experience because I knew that he had loved ones at home who were in deep pain because of his loss. My thoughts have been with the family since that day. I pray that God will grant you all peace and understanding. I am sorry for the loss of one you love so much and hope time will help to dull the hurt you feel.

Doug I can not say I was your best freind. We did talk from time to time as we went on with our journey's. The web of life is wide and you had an effect on many lives. In one way or another.
I know you are in a better place, Watching down on all you love.
I just wanted to say thank you for the short time we walked together on our journey's. I know you know what I mean.
The web will continue as you watch from above. I just hope all those you love will feel peace in thier hearts. Letting the pain ease even if just a bit. Finding comfort In knowing you are in Heaven sending them your love. Laughter in their minds hearts and souls as they continue to learn and grow. When they are on their hands and knees Asking "Why", you are standing right by their side.
A Hero you are and For Always.
A kiss from Heaven is the wind. The Sun is a Hug. Know that it is sent to you with Love from Doug.......
