Arnold Duplantier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 25, 2005.
Arnold Duplantier II found joy giving Iraqi children gifts, watching their faces light up when he handed them one of the Hot Wheels cars he often carried in his pockets. "He was a big kid," said his wife, Tanya. "He liked video games and toys. He was always making jokes and teasing people." Duplantier, 26, of Sacramento, Calif., was killed June 22 by small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was based in Auburn. He earned an electrical engineering degree from Cal State Sacramento and was working at an automobile dealership when he joined the National Guard in 1999. Duplantier was the guy who listened to the homesick blues of others while he silently bore his own longings, his father said. "That's his style," said Arnold Duplantier. His son was the kind of young dad who lowered his 6-foot frame to the floor to scramble with his daughter, Isabel, and help her select crayons. He went shopping on his last leave, buying toys to hand out to the children. He told his wife he was sure they would grow old together and he couldn't wait for the days when they could pass the time together swinging on the porch.

My father worked with sgt dup . When I was a child . I always remember Arnie coming up to me and putting me in the office with crayons & paper that had those dotted lines with the holes in them to rip them . I remember him always picking me up and taking me back inside the hall when the group was in PT . I was young . But I remember his face his voice and his laugh . You are so missed I hope you got my flowers last year

Arnold...yesterday marked the 3 year point from when I got the dreaded call of your passing. I think of you literally every day and acknowledge you in my prayers every night. You'll never know the significance you had and still have in my life. This year, I will be celebrating my one year marriage anniversary and also welcoming my first born baby boy into the world. It is bittersweet to celebrate such joyous events, as I wish you could be here for each of them. You were such an amazing friend, and I hope my son grows to be as wonderful as you. You are missed terribly!

I know your up there watching over everyone and I want to thank you for that we all feel your presence and it's beautiful.

Hi Arnold!

Yesterday was 3 years that you where taking from us. I still remember that awful day when Mario called me crying to let me know that something terrible has happen to you.
Just what to let you know that I still think of you and miss you so much. I still keep in contact with your father and let me tell you he really misses you so much. When we speak to each other we remember the GOOD TIMES that you and Mario had together. I know that the two of you are together AGAIN and you both are watching over your love ones from HEAVEN.

Arnold , I miss you so much, you will always have a place in my heart.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Hey Arnold, I have never written in your guest book but today I woke up thinking of you this Momorial Day and the need to post a note to you to let you know how Blessed we were to have have you in our lives. I was just thinking about some good times we all had together espeacially the time you and Mario bugged me for days for my play station, until I finally gave in, (which was your guys plan). I remember you and Mario hanging out at my house playing that play station into late hours of the night. You know what that play station is still around because it belonged to you, Mario took care of it, while he was here and now that he's gone, we were told it was going to be given to Rob. I'll never forget how you use to make us laugh, you had the greatest sense of humor. How you and I use to argue so much about the smallest things, if I said the sky was blue you would say the sky was grey and we would debate about it until one of us got tired, I would alway win of course, but it was all in fun, I miss those days. Arnold you are truly missed by so many, I see your dad sometimes, when we have events for Mario and he looks so sad, it breaks my heart to see your dad and my sister hurt so much, they are the only ones that know what the other is feeling, they miss you both so much. Your dad was there for my sister for support when Mario passed and I am truly thankful for that.

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know I was thinking of you today, and what a Honor it was to know you. As Mario said at your funeral you are truly our hero. We love you and miss you so much, you will forever live on in our hearts, and as I say to Mario "Until We Meet Again"

Much Love

Hi Arnold,
I was thinking about you today, and your family. I wear the bracelet bearing your name that my mom gave me last year. I look at it often. I watched a video featuring servicemembers who have fought in the war that a friend had sent me today. It brought tears to my eyes as it made me think of you. I hope God continues to give strength and love to your family. They remain in my prayers and thoughts. You are not forgotten.

Well it's been a while since I last came to visit, it's hard when I have
a heavy heart and have to tell you this sad stuff.
Your father was in such pain of your leaving that he was lost in his own
world. He didn't know what was going on.
Maybe you can do something to help your Dad, he's in so much pain,
feeling so much sorrow of losing you.

Yesterday I took our daughter to her first day of the second grade. As I watched her I saw you, wishing that we could have done this together. You would be so proud she is so smart, and very stubborn(like her father). I also felt angry that all those other children had their parents their. I know that you were their in spirt and that you are watching over her as she grows, and that her uncle Mario is watching over her to. we love you and miss you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Hi Arnold!
Sorry for not signing your guest book sooner, but that does not mean I have not been thinking you. You know how much I loved you (you where like an adopted son to me). I remember the good old times, when you use to come over my house and sit and talk to me (that’s when Mario was you know where!). I spoke to your father on 6/22/07 to let him know that I was thinking of you. I can’t believe that it has been 2 yrs now that you where taking away from us. I still remember that awful day when Mario called me crying to let me know that something terrible has happen to you. He said “mom are you sitting down, because I have some of awful news to tell you”, he was crying and I could not understand a word he was saying. He then calms down a little and said Mom, Arnold is gone”. I remember how much he was hurting for the lost of his BEST buddy. I know that you meant so much to my son. I also remember the beautiful poem he read at your service and the last word he said where (I loved Arnold like a brother and Arnold YOU ARE ME HERO.) and that you where.
Arnold, who would have thought that 2 yrs later your best buddy Mario would be with you again in the beautiful kingdom call HEAVEN.
I love and miss both you so much, please take care of each other.

Arnold,
I heard the devastating news yesterday of your best friend Mario's tragic death. I remember like yesterday how sad he was to see you leave on your deployment, and I fondly recall thinking, "Wow, that guy really loves Arnold." I know he is with you now, and the two of you together will spiritually bring peace to those left behind who are grieving Mario's loss right now. Take care of your boy, and know that the two of you are terribly missed and loved.

Dear Mrs. Duplantier, Isabel, and family,

We saw you today at the Veteran's Day Parade in Auburn. I just wanted to let you know you are in our prayers.

October 30, 2006

Today, my daughter and I were at lake Berryessa in N. California. She was in the water swimming when she brought to the surface a bracelet. She called me over to her and showed me a bracelet she found under the water. When I saw the bracelet, I noticed some letters engraved on it. This is what we found on the bracelet: C CO SGT ARNOLD DUPLANTIER II CHARLIE, 1-184 IN USA KIA 22 JUNE 2005. As a former USAF Pararescueman, I am saddened to learn of the death of another warrior. However, I am grateful that my daughter found his bracelet at the bottom of the lake today. What are the odds of this happening. We would like to return this bracelet to the family of Sgt Duplantier. I hope that someone is reading this message and will forward this to the family. In his honor. Please let them know we found this bracelet. My email is: [email protected], which is also another coincedence as I am the founder of Honor The Fallen Foundation."

This week marked the 5 year anniversary of what I can't help to believe ultimately led to your passing. The tragedy of the September 11th attacks has left a scar on the hearts of so many people whose loved ones fell victim to. I know that your spirit will live forever in the scarred hearts of those you left behind. Not a day goes by that you are not thought of, or that your sacrifice has been forgotten. You were, are, and will always remain a hero whose impact on the lives of those you loved will be an inspiration to be even a fraction of the amazing individual you were. You are a true example of what we should all strive to be...a selfless, family oriented, hard working man who died doing what he believed in. Thank you for being you.

It is so hard to believe it has been a year already. I still remember that phone call like it was yesterday & I can still hear the sound of Rob’s heart actually breaking. To loose someone who is loved by so many is unfair. You are more than a friend you are a part of my family, you will always hold a special place in our hearts. I miss you dearly but I feel you still with all of us.

A year today...this hero is not forgotten, even by those who never had the pleasure of meeting him. Freedom is NOT free: Dup and the loved ones he left behind paid the price.

I can't believe it's been a year today. You are missed terribly and none of us will ever forget the incredible sacrifice you made for your country. Everyone misses you so much, but we all do our best to look out for each other and keep your memory alive. The world is so full of immoral and unethical people that it is such a shame to have lost one of the greatest people ever. Unfortunately, life's tragedies are not often accompanied by an explanation. Those of us left behind may never understand and will search for answers indefinitely...but the one thing that will never be questioned is what a phenominal man you were, and remain in our hearts, and the impact you had on all of us. I will not mourn your death today, but rather celebrate your life. 823 always!

In two more days one year ago I got the knock on the door that you had been taken from us. I will never forget that phone call you made to me just hours before you died. I will never forget what you told me that day. They ring in my head everyday. I cherish everyday that we had together. I know that you are watching over us all. I love you and miss you more then anyone could ever know. I know that one day we will meet again but until then your memories will keep replaying in my head until I get to see you again.

With All My Love,

Your Wife Tanya

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

Also, the Moving Tribute is was beautiful! Cherish those memories forever!

If you need anything, please feel free to contact me!!!

Tough to believe it has been 6 months since you have been gone. I read the pages of this guestbook and am not surprised at all of the people's lives you positively impacted. You were just that kind of person. No one who ever met you could ever forget you. The holiday season is coming and going as it will from year to year, but not a single day goes by that we all don't wish you were here. There is no explanation for you being gone, nothing that will lessen the pain so many have felt as a result. We must all trust that God took you, because he needed you on his side...because you are an angel. They say only the good die young, but although you are no longer physically here, your presence is felt every day by those who loved you most. Rest assured that if there is anything I can do to support those loved ones in your absence, I will do it. Thank you for your wonderful friendship.

At this holiday season we begin to remember all those who have been an inspiration to us. People who give honestly from their heart without asking for anything in return but friendship. We feel very blessed to have known Arnold and that he shared his family with both of us. Tanya, both Kathy and I feel you and Isabel are part of our family and please know if you need a friend we will be there. Hope you and Isabel have a merry christmas. You both are always in our thoughts and prayers.

I miss you every day son, it is really hard right now to have that empty spot at the dinner table and less presents under the tree. But I carry you in my heart and know that you are always with me.
