David Kenneth J. Kreuter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2005.
Long before the military ever sent David Kenneth J. Kreuter overseas, there was Boy Scout in love with the outdoors. "The first time we went away to camp, he was all fired up because his parents had given him a hammock," said Greg Kluener, a friend. "He slept outside in the hammock all week instead of in the tent." Kreuter, 26, of Cincinnati, was killed Aug. 3 by a roadside bomb south of Haditha. He was assigned to Columbus. Another friend, Eric Wiete, remembers Kreuter as a skinny kid with hair full of gel. He was "the goofball, always the funny guy," Wiete said. "That's how David would want people to remember him," he said. "You couldn't help but think he was hilarious." The 1997 high school graduate joined the reserves in 1998. He attended Ohio University and earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 2004 from the University of Cincinnati. He is survived by his wife, Chrystina, and newborn son, Christian. "Some never find what they love; David loved being a U.S. Marine," said Kreuter's godfather, Norm Clarke.

Hello David,
This is your sister. I went to visit you yesterday. It was a beautiful day and the wind was blowing and I'd like to think that was you letting me know that you were right there with me. I miss you terribly. Everyone does. I miss our jokes and laughs, our stupid sayings' from stupid movies, our arguments, and believe it or not, I really miss your charlie horses! I guess I just miss you. I'll be talking to you again soon. And don't forget to hold my hand when it's my turn!

Love you so much

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know David, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

What can I say or do to take away the pain, nothing, so I will not pretend that I know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

January 24, 2007

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

Dear David,

We will always keep your smile and good laughter in our hearts always. Even though we only knew you for just a short while, we looked forward to you being apart of the family. We will always remember you and the short time we had with you. Your son is getting so big and is such a sweetheart. You left Chrystina with a true gift and an excellent memory of who you were. You would be so proud to see how strong she has been throughout all of this. She is a great mom, and we are confident Christian will be a fine young man, just like his daddy. God Bless you and thank you for being our American hero.

I only knew David for a short period of time when we were at Space Camp together but he made quite the impression on me. He brought so much laughter to our group that week! It was clear to me then that he had a talent for humor and was an independent thinker (a rare quality in a middle schooler). We kept in touch for several years after camp. I was so sad to hear from David's mom that David had passed away but was glad to learn that he had found love and happiness in his lifetime. I pray for his family every night. David, all of those who serve in our military, and their loved ones truly are heros. Thank you David for everything!

Dear Kreuter Family,

My name is Emily and I had the honor of knowing David for a short while. We attended OU at the same time and took some of the same Psychology classes. He was very smart, he helped me in those classes. He was a very funny and kind person. I had not seen or heard from him in a long time, until that awful day they announced the names of who died that day. I seen his picture and immediately knew it was him. I am so sorry for your loss. I too had a very close family friend die in Iraq on January 26, 2005. His helicopter went down in a sand storm. David is and was a true hero, I can't wait to thank him and all of the other heros someday.

God Bless your family

I will keep you in my prayers

David is my brother and my best friend. He is the one person in my life that has stood by my side time and time again and never given stopped believeing in me. All my life I have looked up to him. I believed in him since the day I was born. Its hard to wake up in the morning knowing that I have to try to live another day without hearing his voice calling me Monkey Child. I sit by his grave talking to him waiting to hear him talk back to me. I beg him to keep guiding me in life. But I just want to be with him. Please keep my mother and father in your thoughts and prayers. They are struggling so much with this. And thank you to everyone that has supported my entire family, including Chrystina and Christian, we all need your love and support. Keep the boys in your thoughts every day and pray every night that they return home safely....

Dear Kreuter Family,

I was honored to be there at the funeral for your son with my fellow friend and Marine, Jeff Mitchell. We deeply feel for you and your family. The ceremony was beautiful that brought tears of joys to our eyes. We served with your son in Lima Company 3/25. He was full of energy and now with the grace of God, we too will live with energy and life. The words will never be found in our hearts, but as we walked following your son to his resting place, we both agreed it was very beautiful and inspiring how much it seemed that the world stopped as we went to the resting place of your son/husband. May God watch over you, his wife and his wonderful son.

With Love,

Dearest Kreuter Family;

My husband Kevin and I had the privledge of attending both the visitation and memorial/funeral for Dave this week. I know you probably met many different people there, but Kevin and I were the ones with the little smiling chubby baby (Kevin and Dave worked together at the club Oscar's/Motion). I personally have only ever been around Dave a few times, yet when I was he was so nice to me and respectful - and FUNNY! My husband used to come home almost nightly after work at 4am and start many conversations with..."Stiffler said...Stiffler did..." and would just completely crack up half way through the story. I always got to hear about the antics, jokes, and drunken- night-out-with-the-boys stories, and after this week - I got to know a whole other side of Dave too. You must be so proud of him. I am so sorry for your loss, yet so happy for your gain of a grandson! You see, as new parents ourselves, our hearts go out to you and Christian and Christina. I can imagine the pain and joy that you are experiencing at the same time, and I can only pray that the joyous times far outlast the pain you carry now.

The services were some of the most touching and beautiful I have ever attended. Although you have to admit, Dave was probably not so happy about the infamous childhood bowl-haircut pictures!!! (But I'm glad you put them there anyway!)

We wish your family a lifetime of happiness with Christian, and strength to let little Christian in on what a great guy Daddy was. Thank you for supporting your son in his decision to help fight for our freedom here at home - we will never forget him. Actually, we are pregnant with our 2nd child and if it is a boy, we are planning to add David's name to the middle name we have selected as a tribute to him. It is but one small thing we could do to preserve his memory.

Dear Kreuter Family:

In April, Christopher Dyer sent me a photograph of himself and David. On the back Chris wrote: “Me and 2nd Fire Team leader Cpl. Kreuter in 29 Palms, CA” That is all I knew of David until the events of 3 August. That photograph has sat on my desk since April. Every morning it reminded me to pray for Chris and “Cpl. Kreuter”. I assumed since it was the only photo Chris sent me from Iraq that Cpl Kreuter must have been someone important to Chris. Of course I realize that all of Chris’ brother Marines are important to him. The photograph will remain on my desk and I will continue to pray for you and the Dyer family every day. I am forever grateful for the sacrifice you and your son have made for my family and for this Country. God Bless You. "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

As a member of My Heart Supports The Troops, a troop support group out of mid-michigan I know the sacrafice you have all made. Thank you is so inadequate, but also so powerful. Thank you for giving up your best and brightest for a greatful nation.

To Those of Lima Company,

Our Marines of Lima Company, you now belong to the ages. We honor you for your unselfish act of courage. We salute and are ever in awe of your bravery, for you have paid the ultimate price. With deep sadness, we wait to honor you one last time. I don't know you but I think of you all, as my Marines. My heart will be heavy for a very, very long time. You have left a void I'm not sure can be filled. We will remember you as one of integrity and commitment. But, most of all, we will remember how proudly you stood because you were a Marine; our Marine.

To family and friends of Lima Company. I can't begin to understand the depth of pain or your sense of loss. I can only hope you will accept my deepest gratitude for the supreme sacrafice you the family and friends of Lima Company have made. I hold each of you in my heart and foremost in my thoughts and prayers. God bless each of you and hol you in His care, as you make this most difficult and long journey.

To the Kreuter family:

Greetings. It is with fond memories that I remember David. He always had a smile on his face. Always cracking jokes, making others laugh. David was on my detail in Alaska a few years ago. We had a lot of fun together on that AT. I will surely miss him. I consider him a good friend and a brother. May God bless his soul. And may God give you all comfort. He has probably already made a wise crack to St. Peter at the pearly gates. I bet you.

Love,

Jacien Carr (Sgt. Carr) and family

For 20 Ohio Marines

Did you feel the wave of sympathy

surging across the Pennsylvania line

and out to you,

the families left behind?

We know.

For we saw your boys

here among ours,

at High School proms

in cars, in shopping malls,

in churches, at picnics

and on the curb

at parades on July 4th

watching veterans

of other wars,

saluting them with gratitude.

We saw them at gates

leaving wives and families,

grandparents

and forlorn young girls--

turning to leave

with head held high,

looking back one last time.

We know them.

For yours are ours.

Even though I never had the opportunity to meet Kreuter, thru my son, CPL Watkins, I feel I have. My son shared with me the sacrifices Kreuter made to go to Iraq with his Marine brothers. We are so shaken by his loss. He was an outstanding Marine, husband, and friend. Kreuter was an excellent example of the Marine Core Values: Honor, Courage and Commitment. He is a true American Hero. His memory will live forever in our hearts. We mourn with the Kreuter family. God bless you and help you thru this horrific time.

With deepest sympathy

I was not privileged to know this young man who so proudly stood up to be counted amoung the brave men & women in the service of the USA. Never counting the cost to himself, went over to Iraq & did his duty. America can be proud of this young man. God Bless & strengthen his family.

In David's memory, I will establish a college fund for his 2 month old daughter at our church where he and his sisters and father attended. It is the least we can do to honor his sacrifice for our country and the people of Iraq. We will miss him and pray for healing to come to his family in a very difficult time.

God Bless you, David, and we will not forget you.

Dear friends & family of CPL Kreuter,

A few days ago I had the privilege of sitting down with Lima's 3rd plt, 1st squad and having them help me label some of their favorite photos they wanted to submit to me for the cruise book. We all had a nice time together. I enjoyed their company, cameraderie and spirit. I felt I knew them much better afterward and looked forward to getting to know them better.

Now this. I am profoundly saddened by the loss of so many of our brave warriors this past week. David lived a hero's life and died a heroic death. I am thankful to have known, even if for so short a time, such a great group of men.

I am submitting a picture of David in Iraq. Please let me know if you would like others.

May the Lord bless and keep you and hold you close to His heart during these times.
Sincerely,

Tony Storey

Kreuter Family,

I served with David in Lima Company. I had the honor of being his platoon sergeant for a time. He was truly one of a kind, hard working and bright. I will miss his sense of humor that he could bring into any situation, (Especially his Hunter Thompson impressions). I'd like your family to know that David was one of the best Marines I've ever known. The world is a lesser place without him. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
