If Andrew D. Bedard got homesick for his friends and family in Montana during basic training, he'd hop into his car and drive there just to spend one day with them. "We'd always say, 'Man, that's a long way,' but he'd always say it was worth it, even if it was just for a day," said friend Brian Gaul. Bedard, 19, of Missoula, Mont., was killed Oct. 4 in a bomb blast in Ramadi. He graduated high school in 2004 and was based at Twentynine Palms. "You could call him anytime and if you needed something, he'd come right over, even if it was really late," his friend Callan Smith said. "He was just so dependable." He loved his time with his friends, playing sports and poker, going up to Flathead Lake and forging the tightest of bonds. From Iraq, he would call his pals at the University of Montana and ask about the Grizzly football team and the early autumn weather. "He was just the best guy you'll ever know," said friend Ben Brunsvold. "By the time he graduated from high school, he had more friends than most people will have in a lifetime." He is survived by his parents, Denny and Michelle.
