Chad R. Hildebrandt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2005.
As his casket lay underneath the basketball hoop at one end of Maxwell High School gymnasium, Chad R. Hildebrandt's former teachers and friends recalled the spots on the court where he would dive for loose balls and make other hustle plays. He was a prankster, a warrior, the big man on campus, a role model to younger students, a good older brother and a young man "intent on living his life to the fullest," said those who spoke in eulogy. Hildebrandt, 22, of Springer, N.M., was killed Oct. 17 in Rutba in a gunfight. He was assigned to Camp Pendleton. Hildebrandt, a 2003 high school graduate, enlisted in the Marines eight days after graduation. Friends said becoming a Marine had always been his dream. "Chad was the greatest guy. It's not fair that he had to go out like this. But he died doing what he loved. It's all he talked about _ being a Marine," said Hildebrandt's friend Richard Galli. Hildebrandt's yellow jersey, No. 44, hung from the hoop for his memorial service. When the service was over, Hildebrandt's classmates gave it to his parents, hugging each of them. He is survived by his parents, Coleen and Bob Hildebrandt.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Chad, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I was shocked and extremely saddened when I was notified by other members of my unit that they had read of Chad. See, my name is Chad C. Hildebrandt. I was assigned to the 1st Bat. 3rd. Mar. for my time in the Corps. I was on my first tour in Iraq when I was wounded on Dec. 10, 2004. I know I have never met Chad R. Hildebrandt, but I cannot seem to get him out of my mind. I wish to extend my deepest regards to Chad's family and friends. If there is anything I can ever do for your or your family, please do not hesitate to contact me.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Please know that I am deeply sorry for the recent loss of your son.

As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,

and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,

I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing. The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes. Now you are approaching the first anniversary of Chad's death and it is difficult to see this time slip away, with fears that our loved one will be forgotten, or that they are slipping farther and farther away from us.

Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.

Ever so softly and slowly, time does heal.

May your Fine Young Marine, Lance Cpl. Chad R. Hildebrandt, Rest Safely, in the Mighty Arms of God and know that he WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

I pray that God's Loving Comfort and Grace will continue to be with you and your family.

I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

Surely He hath borne our grief, and carried our sorrow.

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Chad was my best-freind. In high-school we were pratically inseperable and then I changed schools to go to Cimarron and even then nothing changed. My parents always thought that Chad was going to be the man that I was going to marry and as I got older I thought it too. I guess now we will never know but he will be forever in my heart. I still haven't come to terms with the truth of him being gone and I am not sure if I ever will. I just can't belive it because I can still hear his voice and see his face like I seen him yesterday. But this I am glad because I know that I will never forget him as long as I live.

To the Family and Friends of Chad:

One life lost, is one life too many. We are just getting our lives back in order after losing our beloved Granddaughter, A1C Elizabeth N. Jacobson, a Security Forces Blue Beret, who lost her life in Iraq, 9-28-05. She is now guarding the gates in Heaven and we want you to know that he will not be forgotten and hope that you will be as proud of him for serving as we were of Elizabeth. Without our children this Country would not be what it is today, whether from the first War for freedom until today's wars, we give our lives so Freedom can be obtained. I wish it was different, but unfortunately, it is going to be someone's loved one. May G-d bless our troops, and hopefully, someday Freedom and Peace will reign, so they all can be brought home safely.

No matter what type of accident or act of war, a loss of a child or friend is very traumatic, I know that it isn't much consolation, I hope that you know that there are others that feel your pain.

Elizabeth's motto was "We're only on Earth for a little while, so live life to the fullest and carry a smile."
