Richard T. Pummill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2005.
When Rick Pummill was 5 years old, he caught a dolphin bigger than he was during a fishing trip in the Caribbean. "He was a tough kid, and he was a tough adult," said his uncle, Paul Boland. "I used to bounce him off the walls when he was a baby. He'd throw up and come back for more." Pummill, 27, of Cincinnati, died Oct. 20 in a roadside blast west of Baghdad. When he was 9, Pummill fired a shotgun for the first time. "He told me, 'I want to do it again, Uncle Paul!'" said his uncle, Paul Boland. Pummill, who was based at Camp Lejeune, joined the Marines after graduating high school in 1996. He left behind a safe job as a recruiter because he wanted to get involved in the fighting. His childhood friend, John Morgan Jr., carries Pummill's spare dog tag on his key chain. They met when they were 4 and had been friends ever since. "He was fearless," Morgan said. "That's a good word for Rick." In high school, Pummill wrestled, played football and soccer. Morgan remembers him training by running up and down stairs. "He was so determined," Morgan said. He is survived by his wife, Chantel, and 3-year-old son, Donald.

As a Vietnam Vet I'm HONORED to sign this book for a fallen member of our Greatest Fighting Force the U.S. Marines. I was in Vietnam 1968 during TET as a U.S.A.F. SSGT on C130's supplying our ground forces with essentials. Our planes kept the lines open, brought out wounded & dead. WAR is HELL & SSGT Pummill knew this & knew he had a job to do even if it was in HELL. Our hero's are the one's serving now & the Vet's who served then. God REST his sole.

Thank you Rick for defending my Freedoms. It is because of great American patriots such as you that Americans continue to board airplanes with confidence and the people of this city can live without fear.

You will always be remembered with love and great pride by the grateful nation you served to protect.

Rest in peace.

In Memory of Richard ~ (Debra Estep)

October 20, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Richard, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

You have made the Ultimate Sacrifice. You are in our Prayers. God Bless you, and your Family. Rest in peace Brother. Fellow Vet.

August 8, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain, so I will not pretend that I know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I was just looking at list of names of Marines that were killed in Iraq and came across Pummill's. I met Rich during my first enlistment. WE were with 3/2. He was a great person to be around and I will miss him. I had some great times with Rich. There are a few others I am going to contact that were friends with Rich as well and I am sure do not know he died. To his family my heart goes out to you. I am sorry. I may have some old pictures of he and I. I will leave my contact information below.

To Richard's family and friends-

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Yesterday, Today, Forever – Semper Fi - Marines!

To the Family and Friends of Richard,

We may not have known Richard personally, but that doesn't make any difference, one life lost, is one life too many and we want you to know we feel your pain. We are still trying to get our lives back in order after losing our beloved Granddaughter, A1C Elizabeth N. Jacobson, a Security Forces Blue Beret, who lost her life in Iraq, 9-28-05. But, rest assured she is now guarding the Gates in Heaven while waiting for richard to join her and keep watch over us. Without our children this Country would not be what it is today. May G-d bless our troops, and hopefully, someday soon, Freedom and Peace will reign, so they all can be brought home safely.

No matter what type of accident or act of war, a loss of a child or friend is very traumatic, I know that words aren't much consolation, but we thank you for allowing him to serve. He will always be a hero in our hearts and will not be forgotten.

Elizabeth's motto was "We're only on Earth for a little while, so live life to the fullest and carry a smile."

Ive known Ssgt Pummill for quite some time now... he put me in the Marine Corp back in 2002. I got to spend a whole year in the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) with him. Then me and Adam Ellison was on a week RA (recruiters assistance) with him. Then come to find out.. after his Recruiting days were up.. he was sent to my unit 2/2. The day of the accident i was med-evaced back to the states. Ssgt Rick Pummill was one Hell of a man, And an even better Marine! To his family.. you are in my prayers!

We are just getting our lives back in order after losing our beloved Granddaughter, A1C Elizabeth N. Jacobson, who lost her life in Iraq, 9-28-05, but want you to know that your child will not be forgotten and hope that you will be as proud of him for serving as we were of Elizabeth. Without our children this Country would not be what it is today, whether from the first War for freedom until today's wars, we give our lives so Freedom can be obtained. I wish it was different, but unfortunately, it is going to be someone's loved one. May G-d bless our troops, and hopefully, someday Freedom and Peace will reign, so they all can come home safely. Respectfully,

May God bless you in a very special way, as He took a very special person from this world to be with Him. I thank God every day for men like your son who are willing to fight for our freedom and the freedom of oppressed nations. I know Richard has made a difference in every life he has touched. God bless everyone in his family

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they

protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they

perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus,

our Lord and Savior. Amen.
