In Memory of Kyle ~ (Debra Estep)
November 3, 2008
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Kyle, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Family of Staff Sgt. Kyle B. Wehrly,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.
Very Sincerely
Frank G. Noyes

You are remembered and respected. Thank you Staff Sgt Wehrly!

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

My Name is Scott Wormuth, I was apart of Cpl. Butlers team on our last tour in Iraq and had the honor to work with SSgt. Wehrly. SSgt Wehrly took us our on our first patrol of the area of operations at Camp Ashraf Iraq. It was my first time in country and as a young marine I was nervous but quite excited to get out and fight. Riding in his vehicle on the patrol he got my mind of the nervousness with jokes and his kind personality and made me feel as comfortable I could get granted the situation. It was also my first time working with someone from a different service so I didn’t know what to expect. He thought it was funny how anxious we were to go kick doors in and do what we do, he made a joke when we responded to the IED attack when I asked what he wanted me to do once we reached the area saying "Just don’t go off by urself raiding every building in the area" and then explained what he expected from me. He definitely put a little sunshine on such a dark place. I remember the night he was taken from us, we were on a separate mission to the west and I remember looking to the east across the desert and seeing the lights and helos flying around the area of their operation. Once I returned to the fob the next morning and heard the news it hit harder than id have expected for only knowing a person for about a month. He was a great guy always making a joke every time I ran into him and the rest of his team in the chow hall. I’m proud to have been given the chance to serve with him the few times I did and even more just to have known him. His Humor Kindness and Professionalism will forever inspire me in my tour of duty and in life. Semper Fi, You will never be forgotten.

I have been trying to find out a way to talk to the family of Ssgt. Wehrly for quite some time. I just wanted to say I remember him very well for I served with him at Camp Ashraf Iraq. I was a Marine stationed there from Oct 2005 - May 2006. When I first got there I did a few ride alongs with him and his team. It was my first experience in Iraq,
we where taking over for him so he could go back home. We responded to an IED attack that day. It was how he reacted and conducted his team which inspired me to run my team like he did. Me being a Corporal I was also in charge of a team over there. I also remember in late oct we wrecked a humvee and he responded with his team and helped us get back on the road. My most fond memory of him for the short time I knew him was a few hours before we where to go back to base we stopped in a concealed area and he pulled out a ipod and some speakers and played a few songs, the whole time singing along with them. It made me feel good and it brought a little bit of home to such a far away and scary place. I remember the night of nov 3rd, I wasn’t there when he was taken from this world, but when i heard the news of his untimely death my heart sunk. I knew him only for a short time, but he was so nice, and professional. Normally Marines and the Army dont get along, but i was honored to have served with him. After his death I had my brief moments of grief than i quickly pushed it to the back of my brain. It is only now that im out that i can sit back and think about everything. After everything i went threw in Iraq and all the memories i have. Ssgt. Wehrly is one of the only memories I choose to remember, I know this November will be hard on me and I will see his face. I know saying im sorry for your loss can't bring him back, and im sure you hear it all to much, but what i'd like you to know is that he helped me be a better Marine, and bring all my boys home, and for that i am truly grateful to you for raising a great son, and a great solider.
SEMPER FI!
If you wish to email me please do even if its just to talk about him or anything, I'm sure I can dig up some pictures of us together.

To the Parents and Family Members of Staff Sergeant Kyle Wehrly:
THANK YOU for raising such a professional & dedicated man. There is no higher calling than someone, like Kyle, who gave their life that others may enjoy the freedom that God wants everyone to enjoy. That goes for all Americans and millions of others throughout the world.
My prayers and love are with each and every one of you as you deal with the tragic loss of such a fine son and dedicated American man. May you focus and draw strength on & from the good times and draw strength from Kyle's dedication.
For years I had the privilege of flying helicopters to the Army Reserve unit in Galesburg as a member of the 85th Training Division. It was always a privilege to be with other members of the Army, like Kyle, throughout the midwest.

To the family of Kyle Wehrly: My name is Melinda Astin and I am the proud mother of fallen hero Sgt. Brian Romines. Brian was the first casualty in the 2/123rd, but he was in Alpha Company. I wanted to extend my deepest regrets to you in the loss of your hero and loved one. Words simply are not adequate to describe my thoughts for you. I literally went limp AGAIN when I heard the tragic news of Kyle. The way our community came together to show their respect and honor was simply overwhelming. I can only hope that it was the same for you. Pride flowed along with our tears. Believe me when I say, I know NOTHING can take away your pain and emptiness, but please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many, many people...most of whom you've never even met. Thank you for your sacrifice. Embrace your memories.
With deepest heartfelt sympathy, Melinda Astin
