I remember... as kids... I remember making silly home videos with you... I remember teaching you how to play guitar... I remember you and I hanging out on the weekends and during the week after school... We were inseperable... I remember jumping on the trampoline late one night with Pete... I remember your sister and Tim videotaping it and Tim lieing and saying the cops were out front because we were being so loud... I remember midnight bowling with you... We would always get such a huge group of friends together and just tear up the bowling alley... :) I remember taking tons and tons of pictures of eachother with strange looks on our faces... I remember your card tricks and magic tricks... I wished I could do them and often I tried to imitate them... without much success, i must add... I remember someone throwing you into the pool at my first apartment... man you were pissed because you had your trick deck of cards in your pocket... but i bet you'd look back now and laugh... I miss you so much. You were my best friend... You never judged me and always stood by me... You were perfect... Thank you for protecting me and giving the ultimate sacrifice... although i'd give anything to have you back...

In Memory of Dustin ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Dustin, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

When I first heard of this last year, I knew the his name sounded familiar but I just couldn't quite touch where I knew it from. I knew I went to school with Allan, but I couldn't remember how. The name Dustin Yancy didn't come to mind but when I seen his full name on a friends myspace page, I realized who he was and that I hung out in school with him my 9th and 10th grade year. May God bless you all and you have my deepest condolences.

Dear Yancey Family,
For some reason I ended up on the site for fallen soldiers. I just went through every page looking for your son. I could not remember his name, but I remembered he was from Goose Creek.
Why am I writing to you at this late time? Your son was my son's best friend in Bagdad. I didn't even find out about the loss of your son until June, 06. My son Kenton, was the youngest person in your son's unit(18). Yancey, as Kenton called him, taught him how to play the guitar and they were a match in humor. I am grateful for your sons courage and example for my son to have in such hard times.
In your son's honor and morning, it took Kenton until the end of June for him to even pick up his guitar. Which he sent home shortly after Dustin passed away. He considered Yancey his best friend and had the utmost respect for him.
Although I did not know Dustin, my heart ached as I read all the wonderful thing written to, and about him. Again, thank you for having such a wonder son that could share and show my son so much about life and what it means.
I am so sorry for your loss, but wanted you to know how much he was respected by my son and what a good role model he was.

How long has it been my dear friends, Anita and Tim and family. How can I express what I feel at this moment. Our children played together and we all loved each other over the years and over the miles. What a fine young man, Dustin. Watching his future and skills being shaped by his parents was a wonderful thing to watch. I love you all very much and my heart is with you. Much love and sympathy.
Love,

To the Family of Pfc. Dustin A. Yancey:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young man who gave his life so selflessly. We lost our son 12/1/05.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. They will never be forgotten, never able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your memories will sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away. God Bless this courageous soldier and his family.

My sympathy, and love goes out to the Yancey family, regarding the loss of Dustin (My Allan). He was truly an amazing person, and I have no doubt in my mind that he is watching over you all. While I was blessed to know him in high school and sometime beyond, I wish I could have seen the man he became, after he was taken from us. While this entry comes so late after his passing know that my heart has been with you from day one. Thank you Dustin for being a freedom fighter, my hero, and my inspiration. I know you wouldn't want any tears, so I'll just celebrate your life, by finally living mine. Love Ya!

Tim and Family, it is with a very heavy burden that I discovered the loss of your son, Dustin, today. I remember like yesterday when you and your family reported in the early 90's for duty in Greenwood, SC at the 111th Signal Battalion. How proud you must be of Dustin for stepping up when his Nation called him to serve. We are a Nation at War and your son paid the ultimate price for the very Freedom that we all enjoy. This Nation is indebted to you and your Family. May God bless you and your loved ones forever!

My heart goes out to your family. I actually graduated high school with Dustin. I too joined the military. I joined the Air Force in December of 2002. Deploying over there is scary and takes a lot of courage, which he seemed to have. I know you must be so proud. I am sorry for you loss though, and your family will be in my prayers.

Dear Yancey Family,
Words cannot describe our sorrow for your loss. We didn’t know Dustin but I am sure he was an outstanding human being. His dedication to his country, and his willingness to go in harm’s way to protect our way of life speak volumes for his character.
Your sacrifice cannot be fully understood by anyone who hasn’t been there, but we can tell you that Dustin did not die in vain. My father served in the Navy in WWII, my husband in the Army, and our son-in-law is currently a Marine. Freedom is not free, and the sacrifice made by your family is the ultimate tribute to our country.
God Bless you and your family in this time of need, and for all times. Know that there are many, many Americans who cry with you for your loss, wish we could enfold you in our arms, and thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

I went to GCHS with Allan and we were good friends for a while. He was so funny--we always did Monty Python impressions and he always knew what to say--He sent me an e-mail shortly before he left for Iraq. He was so proud to be in the Army. I went to high school with Dustin, but only had one class with him in my junior year. He was a very funny guy and very nice. I was very good friends with Kelly. Allan was such a great guy. I worked with him at the commissary and I remember the day he left for the Army. He was always there to help with anything. He always tried to make you smile if you had a bad day. He'd do whatever he could to make your day go a little better. I will never forget his magic tricks. Allan was a very thoughtful person, he always put others first and refused to let anyone by without putting a smile on their faces. He was a great friend, and a great soldier, and I'm very thankful he kept in touch like he did, and had so supportive through the years we knew each other.
I'm trying my best to keep a smile on, regardless of the loss and upset, because I know Allan wouldn't want to see us upset, and if he could he would probably pop a joke into each one of our minds right now to get us to laugh just like he used to.
My heart goes out to you all; Tim, Anita, you both raised a wonderful son, he'll be forever in our hearts. God bless.

We knew Allan through our daughter Leah, they attended GCHS together & were good friends. Allan visited our home on several occasions, he was a nice young man with a great sense of humor. Allan & Leah were in the same chorus group together so we had the pleasure of listening to their concerts as well. The last time Allan was home on leave he visited Leah and they spent time playing video games & catching up on times past. We didn't know Allan as well as Leah did, but he put a smile on everyone's face when he would visit. You are in our prayers, may you feel the comfort of God's love and strength. May your sorrow be replaced by the happy, loving memories made by Allan & all of you together. Remember he loves you, love never dies.

What to say to a family of such a wonderful person. Allan was always a blast to be around. I was in Chorus with him and graduated from GCHS is 2001 with him. When I was down, he was always there to help give a "pick-me-up." Never did I see him without a friendly smile and a kind embrace. He was very talented and driven in everything he did. Seemed that anything he put his mind to doing was done to the utmost of his abilities. My brother is in Iraq at this time as well. He's in the 3rd MP from Ft. Stewart and is due home in January, as was Allan. When my mother called me this morning to tell me of Allen's passing I was at a complete loss for words. He has given us all the ultimate gift. His life for our freedom, but Allan was the type that he'd give anything if it would give the ones he cared for what they needed. He will be missed dearly by us, his friends, and by you, his family, but we all have been honored in knowing him and his loving spirit. Thank you for raising such a wonderful person that could have such a profound impression in all of us. My family's prayers are with you in this time of grief.

I went to high school with Allen. We were in Chorus together, in the time we spent together in that course I got to know what a wonderful, smart, and funny guy Allen was. He taught me so much mainly that it's good to be true to yourself. Allen was a talented singer. I feel so blessed to have been able to know him. As I sat down and read the paper this morning I was shocked that Allen had passed away. I just sat there thinking no it couldn't be him. I pulled out my old year book and looked back at Allen in 2001 the year he graduated from high school. I smiled looking at a picture of our chorus class and seeing Allen looking so handsome. Next I looked for he had signed my yearbook. I found it at the top of page176. It read: Hey Hey, I will miss you and you stay sweet. Hope to see you down the road. Peace Out Allen Yancey. I only wish I had seen him before now. Allen will always have a place in my heart. I just wish I could have let him know how much he meant to me. I am so thankful for everything he has done for our country. My thoughts are with you his loving family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear of the untimely passing of your wonderful son. Though you are sad and in mourning, I am sure you are also very proud of Dustin for what he chose to do with his life. I did not know him, but he is a true American Hero for giving the ultimate sacrifice for his country. My son and nephew chose the military and we are proud of what they are doing for their country. Anita, I don't know if you remember me, but we worked together at Evangel Christian School years ago (I taught first grade). I will keep you and your family in my prayers and will ask for prayers from the First Assembly Church of God family. God will help you get through this difficult time.
God Bless you.

Dear Yancey Family,
First, my heart is heavy tonight with grief for your lost son, and I know you all are going through a real hard time with this tragedy. As a proud former Marine(SGT) and currently a service connected disabled veteran I can say with conviction after reading SPC Yancey's obituary that your son had all the attributes of an outstanding soldier and it is quite obvious this young man was very proud to wear his uniform and perform his duties to the utmost of his ability. We lost a great soldier on November 4,2005, but his ultimate sacrifice for this country will never be forgotten I assure you this statement with complete confidence. SPC Yancey I look forward to the day when we meet comrade up there to thank you for taking the fight to them and taking care of buisness. Your memory will stand the test of time down here and we will comfort your loved ones forever until they see you again. On behalf of the United States Marine Corps and America we thank you Mr.and Mrs. Yancey for having an outstanding son and soldier represent this country and never forget his sacrifice was not in vain, for he will inspire many to follow in his footsteps for the rest of time.
Deepest sympathy,
David L. Hall

I do not know if you remember me from Evangel Christian School, but my heart goes out to you. From one parent to another, this is a nightmare no parent should experience. We are truly sorry for your loss. You always spoke so highly of him. He must have been the best son a person could ever ask for. But of course he was you raised him. God be with you. With much love and concern.

To Dustin's Family and Friends,
Since I heard the news of a loss of one of our own, you have been on our minds and in our prayers. Thank God for those who serve our country with such bravery and conviction. Dustin was obviously one. We do not consider this sacrifice lightly and would like to offer a scripture in Psalms 34 18-19 to assist in comfoting you. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers him out of them all." God bring you His Peace.

Dustin was a good Soldier. He was always smiling and telling jokes his favorite thing to do was show you card and magic tricks. He would light up a whole room with his BIG smile. MR and MRS Yancey, I am sorry Dustin died. He loved life, he was a good friend, like a Golden Retriver he showed his loyalty to all around him. I was his Platoon Leader when he was in B Co. 26TH FSB. I remember Dustin would smile even when he was being punished or corrected. I am very sorry the last thing I ever said to him was chewing him out on thursday. That will haunt me forever. 04 1230 NOV 2005, worst day and time of my life.

I am thankful for all of our fighting soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines and I mourn your loss. It is the nation's severe loss as well. I'm a retired military man and when my time comes I too will be put to rest at Arlington. I'm glad to know I'll be sharing that hallowed ground with a hero like Dustin Yancy.

Although I did not know Allan, nor had the opportuninty to ever meet him. I would like to take this moment to express a heartfelt THANKS to him, for how he allowed his life and freedom to be given in place of many others lives and freedom. And did so SO PROUDLY. For this I am so thankful. My prayer is that God will grant his family and friends the grace and strength to get through this time of loss, grieve, and sorrow. And find the strength to carry on in life as Allen would want you to do.
