I served with Captain Cahill in 3rd BDE 3rd ID and was his driver for about a year. I was in the BDE TOC at FOB Warhorse when it was reported. I think about him often. He was a 2nd Father to me, and as a young infantryman, he led from the front and was the best mentor I had. He's sorely missed.

7 Nov 2005: the day after we lost Joel and the day before SFC Cashe passed away at BAMC. Later, Joel first posthumous recipient of MacArthur leadership award. And some day, SFC Cashe will be recipient of congressional Medal of Honor. What an honor to have served with them and all our Soldiers and their Families. RIP Joel...leading the company of heroes.

My sons and I participated in the #Honor100 Mindful Memorial Day event and had the honor laying a yellow ribbon at Captain Cahills memorial site at Arlington National Cemetery yesterday afternoon. It was there my family learned of the man he was, the life he lead, and how he died for the freedoms we should never take for granted. It is all the more moving to visit this site and see how he is loved and missed every day by so many. His life and ultimate sacrifice will never go unrecognized. God bless.

There is not a year that goes by that you are not remembered with love and respect in our home.
My spouse SFC Jose Maldonado misses you dearly. You were his commander, mentor, and most of all...friend. Our son Alexander still talks about you buying him soda's while waiting for his dad to finish up his work on Kelley Hill. He would sit at the end of your desk and you would tell him jokes. He said you were quite funny
My husband finally made it to Arlington this year in April - it was bittersweet and much needed in his healing. We sat next to your grave for a good long while and listened to the sounds and the wind blowing. We prayed for you, your family, your friends, and for peace on earth.
Thank you for your service to our great country. Thank you for impacting our lives in such a positive way - you are dearly missed - and never forgotten.
