Clarence L. Floyd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2005.
Clarence L. Floyd joined the Army after holding a succession of minimum-wage jobs in New York City, hoping to be able to better provide for his family. "He didn't go there because he wanted to go," said his stepfather, James Kelly. "He went there because he had to go." Floyd, Jr., 28, of Newark, N.J., was killed Dec. 10 when his unit came under attack in Taji. He was trained as a marksman and was assigned to Fort Campbell. Floyd, who was born and raised in Harlem, and received his high school degree through the Job Corps, where he assisted in relief operations for the victims of Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Relatives said Floyd was an easygoing family man who enjoyed playing basketball and other sports. He also is survived by his wife, Deidra; a stepdaughter, Shyann Landis; stepsons Chequan Wise and Norman Landis; a son, Dayvon Eaddy; and a daughter, Kayla Floyd. Floyd's mother said she last talked to her son about two weeks ago. "'It's hell over here. It's nothing like what's being portrayed on TV,'" Valerie Kelly recalled him saying.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Floyd Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Never had the great pleasure of meeting Floyd. He and my brother David Myers were in the same unit. At home he was my brothers best friend, video game challenger, and his sanity sometimes. Every memory about the boys being in Iraq had both of then in it. I was extremly saddened when I heard the news about him. My brother still fights the sadness for this family. He truly misses his friend. My prayers will always be with your family.

When i first arrives to the unit in 2004 floyd was the other new soldier. he had been there a week befor me and we became good friends. He was from the east coast and i was from the west coast. Griffin was from star wars. the 2 were Best of friends. As we grew as soldiers together floyd and i were to go to air assault school together. I remember Smoke hayes asking me to help floyd with the studying part of AA school because i had a BS degree before i came in the military. The man needed no help what so ever. he aced the test no problem. But I needed help. I didnt have a car to drive to AA school. So here comes floyd with the ugliest greenest car i ever seen in my life. But it got us there. we were a team and with the help of floyd and his wife i got through AA school and passed along with him. Floyds acomplishment put him on a path 2 success. He was always there for us and for his leaders. He always said it was his wife that made him a better soldier than he could have been on his own. His genorosity and selfless service made us better soldier. He was one of the best Sgt's in the platoon but then god needed his generosity in heaven. I am currently in a reserve unit in california and soldiers always ask me about my Air assault badge i wear on my ACU's. I tell them its not just a badge thats a symbol of one soldier helping another soldier be the best he can be.One day those Air assault wing will fly me up to serve in heaven next to you. But for now i must Take care of the reservists and help make them better than they can be.Always Rock Hard Alpha SPC.Ruybal

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Clarence, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I can't even find the words...I lost my 19 year old son--5 Sept 2007, Balad, Iraq. I am absolutely devastated and I know that you are too...but find comfort in the fact that we will see our loved ones, our heroes again. Do I wish that I could trade places with my son? ABSOLUTELY not. He is in the arms of our Lord--"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" ~Rev 21:4
What a wonderful thought...
May God bless Sgt Clarence L. Floyd, God bless you and your family and God bless America!

Deidra--it was an absolute pleasure chatting with you yesterday. You and your children have been on my mind constantly. Stay strong--you ARE a survivor. Please contact me if you want to talk further.

My heart goes out to Sgt. Clarence L. Floyd. I don't know him but he will be miss.

August 19, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Deedra, never ever did I think I would be writting in this guest book! I know there is nothing I can say to take that deep dark pain that hurts so bad in your whole being away, I wish I could!

It was such a pleasure meeting you and the kids, even under those circumstances, you made us all smile, I think you even made Fred smile. I thank you for the tribute you gave at Fred's funeral, now back at you. . . you have alot of loving people that care so much about you and your family. Most of all you have your faith in God. He will never let you go even tho it seems like it now, but he see's the whole picture and He DOES know whats best. We just have to wait on the whole puzzle to be put together before we get to understand it. Just know Dee God loves you so much and he will Never leave you nor forsake you! Lean on Him , rest in Him, Trust in Him, He is where our peace comes from!

I am so sorry I never got to meet your man but thru you I felt I already did. Very kind, Loving, giving person. He had to have a great sence of humor because you have such a great one and You know I already thought he was handsome. You said he was your "sole mate" well he still is ... this time you've had with him is nothing compared to eternity of love! You will see him again and Praise God that you have both your honey and " Smoke " watching over you and the kids! God Bless you Girl. Love ya. . .if ya ever just need to get away you always have a home here to come to! Hug those babies, I will be praying for you all.

In Him we can do all things . . .
