Daddy, it's been 17 years since you were taken from us. I've gotten married, had a son that I named after you, and survived breast cancer. I miss you still so much. Me and mommy were finally able to visit your tree in Ft Stewart. It was a pretty big moment for us. I really wish you could've met my husband and son. I know you would've loved them like I do. It's still really hard not having you around. I miss you and love you.

It's so hard not having you here to help me out in college and getting my first job. There have been so many times where I have no idea what to do, and I really wish you were still here.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know James, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Shawn,
It is almost three years since you have left this world to be with your Heavenly Father.
I visited your Mom recently and I want you to know that she is trying really hard to move on with her life . She has found support in others who have lost children and she is talking openly about you and your "adventures of your youth". We laughed and smiled .
I was looking through some old pictures and I have the cutest picture of you at 3 years old- when I babysat for you!
What a handsome soldier you became.
I have met Sandy a few times and I see your mannerisms in her.
YOur Mom and Dad are such wonderful people . Recently I visited them, to comfort them, and they prayed with me over an illness that I have. They are so giving and so special to me.
Never does a time pass, when I don't ride by your house and I pray for your parents, wife and daughter.
Thank you for being a hero for our country.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

It has been over a year now. Time has really passed. I remember a funny moment on the trail when SFC Moudy got into it with another drill sergeant over the remote control for the television in the day room. Moudy got so mad at the other drill sergeant because he couldn't find the remote control for the television so he could watch television on CQ. He didn't want to be going to the TV to change channel. Man that was a classic moment. I liked it when he got mad. He sounded so funny. I miss you man. I wish you were here to talk about some wonderful times we had as drill sergeants. Rest in Peace.

To the Moudy family -
My apologies for the late entry - while I heard of Jim's passing shortly after it occurred, I just came upon this site today.
Jim and I were good friends in high school. The fact that we had not seen each other for nearly 20 years did not make the news of his passing any less stunning.
Just this past weekend, I attended a small reunion at our high school for those that performed in the school's drama productions. One of my fondest memories of that time is the scene that Jim and I shared in Neil Simon's comedy 'The Good Doctor' - as two haggard old war veterans arguing incessantly over what constituted the 'perfect lunch' as if the fate of humanity rested on what type of soup went best with trout.
Jim's performance is frequently mentioned among the highlights of the 35-year history of the drama program. I can't help but smile every time I think back on that scene - and think of how fitting that role was for Jim.
It is a comfort to know that Jim earned great respect as a member of the U.S. military. I am honored to have known and befriended him. Please accept my sincere condolences and best wishes.
Sincerely,
Scott Bell

Sadly, one year ago today Jim departed this world.
To give Jim's life meaning, I will always attempt to live according to many of the principles that he cherished. Everyday I attempt to strive for excellence in my life while exerting a positive and calming influence on those around me. Periodically reflecting on our roots allows us to maintain our humility and focus as we journey further into our adult lives.

I am Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Sgt. James S. Moudy, one year ago today.
The price this Fine Soldier and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
May James rest safely in the Loving Care of God and may the Peace of the Lord continue to be with the Moudy family.
There will never be enough ways to humbly thank these heroes for their Supreme Sacrifice, my brother among them. KIA~Vietnam, 1967.

I had the honor to serve with SFC Moudy 1993-1995 at Ft Campbell when he was a NCO in 1-502. He demonstrated time and again that he was one of those guys that you could depend on, the ones you naturally refered to as a leader. For some reason, whenever the mortar platoon had bad news to give me, he was always the messenger. Probably because he would always put what ever happened into perspective, in his quiet and gently humorous way. Or perhaps because of his courage, and his instinctive desire to do the right thing. While his loss is a blow to our Army, the loss of a father, husband, and son is so much greater. I grieve for your loss and I, and many others, will miss him.
