Jonathan K. Price Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 19, 2006.
School Superintendent Alan Estes remembers Jonathan K. Price as a positive presence on his small campus _ well-respected and always busy. "He was a great kid in school, always smiling," Estes said. "He was a super kid to have around the building. He''ll be thoroughly missed in the community." Price, 19, of Woodlawn, Ill., was killed Jan. 13 by small-arms fire in Ramadi. A 2004 high school graduate, he was assigned to Camp Lejeune. He played baseball and golf, and was in the student council, Library Club and Spanish Club. He helped produce the yearbook and served as Homecoming Emcee during his senior year. Price also sang in the choir at Woodlawn Christian Church and was an Eagle Scout. His classmates voted him "Teacher''s Pet" and gave him the Spirit Award. "His life had touched so many throughout our small town; whether it was helping with a church project, umpiring a youth baseball game, or raising money for a worthy cause, Kyle was there," according to a school tribute site. He is survived by his stepfather John Hunsell, mother Cheryl Hunsell, father David Price, and fiancee, Brea Tate. ___ The high school in this tiny southern Illinois town will close Friday so students and staff can attend the funeral of a 2004 graduate killed last week in Iraq. Marine Lance Cpl. Jonathan Kyle Price, 19, was on guard duty on Jan. 13 in Ramadi, Iraq, when he was killed, reportedly during combat. Price, who was set to return home on Feb. 20, was planning to marry his pregnant fiance. "He was just a great man," said Kelly Owens, a technology coordinator at Woodlawn High School. "He was a really important part of our community." Alan Estes, the high school''s superintendent, remembers Price as "a cooperative young man who had a goal and a purpose each day" as he walked, smiling, through the hallways. "You can''t have enough Kyle Prices in your school," Estes said. Shane Witzel, Price''s former baseball coach, called Price the consummate team player, "always willing to do whatever it took to make the team better." "He wanted to be a part of something bigger than himself," Witzel said. Around this community of 630 residents west of Mount Vernon, ribbons are tied to signs and posts _ yellow sashes signifying support for the U.S. war effort, black ones representing a fallen soldier. "There is a sense of togetherness here, a feeling of trust and caring for each other that you may not find in bigger towns or cities," Owens said. The high school''s Web site features a color photo of a uniformed Price against a black backdrop, along with other photos of Price as a student. An animated U.S. flag flutters at half-staff. Signers of the Web site''s guestbook include Price''s Spanish teacher, Debbie Wilson, who wrote that "if I were in any battle, I would have wanted Kyle by my side, and somewhere a mother is whispering a prayer of thanks that Kyle was there." ___ On the Net: Woodlawn High School: http://www.woodlawnhs.org/ -- School Superintendent Alan Estes remembers Jonathan K. Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Price Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jonathan, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

He bravely fought so that we could live safe here at home. I will always remember his sacrifice, and he will always be a HERO! My brother was killed in Fallujah on 12/01/05. As someone told me at his service - there is a heaven for U.S. Marines! I know they are at peace with their fellow brothers, and they are looking down on us, wishing they could take our pain away. Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
