Hello,

We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We have recently sent Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Matthew D. Hunter US Army Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

The Mindful Memorial Foundation is honoring fallen service members by giving out ribbons with tags containing information on a fallen service member. I was honored to be able to wear the ribbon and tag remembering Matthew this year. He is the fallen service member that I am praying for.

Hey big brother,
Just found your book. It's been six years and much has happened. There is a new Little Hunter you'd have loved to meet. As it is, she's already been up to see you and will hear many Drammy stories about her "untle matt". I really hoped you'd return WITH your shield, not on it. Love you lots, big brother.

Dearest Matt Moo,
You left us 4 years ago today. It is so hard to believe you are gone. Meredith is driving and a junior in high school and me of all people is in nursing school. I have a 3.69 GPA, all I ever wanted was you to be happy and proud of us, because we were always so happy and proud of you. She is doing well in 4H and still playing soccer and misses you so much. I still can not describe how it is to not see your beautiful smile everyday or to hear your voice, but it is something I will have to live with because I have found peace knowing you were doing what you loved. At least I tell myself that. I love you and have always loved you and will always love you, and well i will see you again someday. xoxoxo Wen

Hey Matt, It's your other Mom. We just got back from 4-H camp a few weeks ago. Brian was there and we did alot of talking about you. Carl Townsend was there too, and of course we all remembered the last time we saw you(last night of camp). Saw your Mom the other day and we both were in tears talking about our Matt. Don't ever forget that you will always be with us. Mom, Bonnie Treiber

I have not signed this book since 2006. I have been a subscriber to it since you passed away. I look at it all the time but could never find the words to write. I have been doing great. I live in Indiana now, boy is that weird! I finally got my contractor job, it's ok but I might be starting Air Traffic Control school soon and you know I will be good at that.
I have bought a house, joined the guard, got a husky (what a pain, LOL), and I have been with my boyfriend for almost 1 1/2 yrs. I'm really happy and I know that would make you happy.
No matter what, I still miss you. Reading through the guest book today brought tears to mye eyes. All those feelings that I remember having when you passed, flooded back in seconds. Someday I will see you again, hopefully this time I wont have a headache. LOL
Love, Jessie

It's coming into spring. The daffodils you helped me plant are blooming. The burning bushes we planted are in bud. Razz who chewed your cell phone is still missing his "Salty Guy" and I have another Rott beauty you would love named Cindy Lou Who. I rescued her, but she has rescued me. I miss your bear hugs and all the silliness we all shared. Love you forever, MOM P.S. I saw Orion in the sky on the 23rd.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Matthew, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Matt was my other "son". He always called me Mom 2 and that has been going on since he was in junior high. What a wonderful young man and he will be deeply missed by my family and our 4-H family. The last time I saw him was Friday evening of 4-H camp 2005. He picked me up and gave me a kiss and wanted to know when we were going out for pizza. I told him to be careful and to write. Never heard from him but I hope he knew we were thinking of him. God Bless you Matt Hunter, you are our Hero.

I only knew Matt for a short time while we were close friends. With his ability to relieve my headaches and his awesome music taste. He was more than just a friend to me, at times he was my motivation, my reminder, my Hero, and he was even my heart when I needed a little push in the right direction. I cared for him dearly and there will always be a piece of my heart that will be with him. My heart reaches out to his family. I know they will always morn for him. The plans he had for when he came back and for his life. He was really something and motivated. You know when you stay up all night just to talk to one person and then get 2 hours of sleep before a 12 hour shift. Then they must be good. He was just that, not only good but great! Rock on Matt. As in Metallica said "Where Ever I May Roam" I know your in a better place and I will always miss you dearly.

My Prayer for Matt and our way of life thru the Army:

Psalms 144:1 A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my strength, who teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight;
Psalms 144:2 My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.

Your with God now Matt. I love you

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

To the family of Matthew Hunter,

I send out a deep condolensce to you for the recent loss of your son, your brother...my friend. We had met once before through my wife Shae, and he had given me a book for Warrant Officer School, so I can try to make better of myself. I can never forget that day because he helped me and motivated me to take the beginning steps of Warrant Officer Candidate School, and all the examinations to follow. He has been one true friend to my wife and he had definetly earned my respect. He was a friendly guy and actually had the same interests as I had, which was surprising to me at the time I met him. It always hurts to hear that the army lost another good soldier, but hurts even more when that good soldier was a close friend near and dear to us all. May he rest in peace and I pray that God watches over his family.

I'm still numb from the news. Matt was my neighbor growing up in Valley Grove. We went to 4-H camp together. His parents Fred & Kathy were there all week working as camp counselors and directors. My heart aches for Matt's family, but I know his spirit is in a place much closer than Bagdad now; he is in our hearts and memories forever. I hope you find comfort in his closeness.
