Hope you are resting in Peace Lance Corporal Michael S. Probst. It was an honor and privilage to have served with you during your tour but not an honor to return without a great hero. You are a hero for your combat actions and are deaply missed.

Remembering Lance Cpl Michael Probst on this the 5th anniversary of his supreme sacrifice for his brothers-in-arms and our country. As I said in my previous post, having been one of those who carried him into the ER that day, I continue to carry the memory of this fine marine with me every day. I pray that our Lord has been able to provide his family with hope and that time has softened the blow of this loss. I never met Michael, but a good friend was in his unit. I found him on a page making an assignment for my students. He has impacted many and is respected beyond what i think his family may realize. My deepest regrets for his family and friends.

I served with Michael on his tour to falujah. I think of Mike daily. I remember right before we left the two of us were talking, and found out that he had family in my home town of River Falls WI. We had plans to meet one day in River Falls and take a night on the town. I want you to know that your sons story of life will allways live on through all of us that knew him. He was a great man and he will never be forgoten. I hope the best for your family and sorry about your loss. Your family payed the alltamit sacrifice for this country and we will allways be indebted, for the work and dedication that Michael had for his country and fellow brothers. Hi my name Chris Gardner. My deepest regards go out to all his family and friends. I knew Mike very well while working at Heritage Chevron in Irvine from 1996-2003. While working together his presense was well known and liked with high spirits and intriguing insights with highly opinionated humor, he always had something to say about anything and would always jump on the oppurtunity to make people laugh. He'll me sorely missed. Sadly, I didn't hear of Mike's death until recently, (due to being out of the country since 2003, pursuing a teaching career) and wishing now I should have followed up more on past friend's whereabouts during which time. Also, I'd like to honor Mike's bravery for doing his serivce over there in Iraq. He took that vow to served and protect indeed, may his legency continue. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I remember when you said that "we were the same" kinda person, and that was a real honor. We read with extreme sorrow of the loss of your son in Sunday's L.A. Times. He truly was one of our best and brightest and our country is diminished with his loss. We, too, have a young son who wore his cape around the neighborhood "saving" the world. We are blessed to have him in our lives and we know you feel the same way about Michael. God bless you and know that we say prayers that your sorrow will subside and your joy and pride in his life take its place.

My family grew up next to the Probsts and my brother considered them his best friends growing up. He always appreciated how they stuck up for him when others were making fun of him. We are deeply saddened and devastated to hear the news of Michael's death. In my mind, Michael will always be the little kid playing in the forts they used to build in our backyard. I never know him personally. I may have met him briefly as I shake his hand once during after the football in Irvine back '98. I played for UHS. May our prayers be with you.

I've lost another fellow Marine, a member of the new Greatest Generation. I grieve with his family.

I knew probst ever since enlisting, he went to boot a week before I did but we picked up with the same platoon in boot camp(1043) and bonded like brothers, we again met up in the same unit 1st tanks. This loss saddens me deeply and will not be forgotten. Semper fi brother and thank you.
