November 11, 2012

So much time has past but it still feels like yesterday, June 7, 2006, when we lost so much that changed our lives forever.

We, too, always take a moment at Scott's grave site when we go to Arlington to visit Nick's even though we know we won't neither there because they are both in heaven now but somehow it does give us some comfort to honor these men for the ultimate price that they gave to serve their country. We, too, want to say thank you to Scott and his family and friends. One of Scott's wonderful family friends met me and my husband to honor Nick when he was laid to rest and that meant more than anyone will ever know because we were so far away from home and so alone in such unpleasant circumstances and inclement weather.

The saddest part about visiting our loved ones' grave sites is that where there none there is now hundreds if not a thousands more in just a few years time!

Today in honor of Veteran's Day, may God bless all the veterans and all the families and friends that have loved ones that also gave their lives for our country.

Hoo-ah!

I was LT Love's gunner on the Bradley and as everyone else has said on here, he was the best Platoon Leader and the nicest human being anyone could ever meet. He was a kind person who took the time to listen and try to help in anyway possible. I will always miss Scott and will always remember him and will hold him in my heart.

LT, You will never be forgotten you are still one of the best Platoon Leaders I will ever meet in the army. I served proudly next to you and will never forget that. The memories will last forever. You will ALWAYS have a place in my heart.

I am Lt. Scott Love's cousin and today my 12 year old daughter was given an assignment in school to write about her heroe. She needed a picture of Scott to go along with her paper and I remembered this web site. I have not visited this site in some time, but after reading the messages that have been passed along, rest assured that I will visit again and again. We had somewhat of a family reunion just before Scott headed out and I got the chance to sit and talk with him on a peir overlooking the river. I had always viewed Scott as the little cousin that I let ride on my shoulders, but during our talk I changed my view of the man sitting alongside me. He was assured of himself and the men that surrounded him and was confident in the role that had been placed upon them. For those of you who do not know, Scott's younger brother Dan was serving in the Marines when Scott passed away and he continues to do so today. Scott, I think of you often and miss the talk on the pier. You are missed.

LT, you will forever be remembered in my heart. You were the best Officer I have ever encountered in the Army. You were always there to talk or lend a helping hand. I remember in kuwait you sat with a few of us privates and sorted spent brass for hours. You will always have a place in my heart.

Lt. Love was the first platoon comander I ever had, and he by far set the standard. Always ready to get his hands dirty and work side by side with his men. I will remember him always as one of the bravest men I have ever known. It was an extrem honor to serve with him, and to be able to call myself one of his soldiers.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Scott, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

He was my LT when I was in 3rd platoon. Most definately the nicest person I have ever met in my life. He always took time to talk to his soldiers and find out about them, where they are from and their thoughts on life. He would partisipate in details that officers arnt suppost to do like sort ammo or police call a range. I have never seen him with out a smile on his face. The world is a worst place without him.

Dear relatives of Scott, my son SSGT Russell J. Verdugo is buried in Arlington National Cemetery along with your hero. I took some photos last Memorial Day Week-end 2007 and have a photo of your Scott’s grave site and marker. If you would like a copy emailed to you, please let me know. I know we are so very proud of our fallen heroes, but we miss them so.
In loving remembrance of our heroes!
Gold Star Mother,

August 19, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I was saddened today as I learned of Scott's death on the Fallen Heroes website. Scott was in my platoon in OCS and IOBC. He was an honorable man with inpeccable integrity.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympothy. Scott was my roommate during OCS at FT Benning. Scott was a very intelligent man and slow to anger. He was always easy to get along with and was eager to help others succeed. The world is a lesser place without Scott smiling.
May God bless his family and friends.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Scott replaced me in Tammim, Iraq and we spent a considerable amount of time working in the area together as our units switched out at the end of May and the begining of June. He was a brilliant and shining example of leadership. I found him constantly taking notes to better prepare himself and his men for the difficult task at hand. His use of the Arabic language and care for all life were traits that I will always remember. He was taken from his family as my helicopter lifted me towards mine. I found out about his death upon touching down in Kuwait and I fell down to cry. I tried to do everything I could to give him the best chance possible there. I was hit by 14 IEDs in that area and survived and Scott was killed by his first. I am truly sorry. I will forever remember this man, his bravery, and his example.

I met Scott at HHC 3/11 before OCS. We spent time together going to Ranger Joe's to finish our packing list. I remember him smoking me on a 3-mile run the week before OCS. He was intelligent, professional, caring, and completely squared-away. We were miserable along with everyone else during OCS and then saw each other in passing during better times in IOBC. It was my honor to serve with him. He was one of the best.

To all of us who shared the OCS experience with Scott in the fall of '03, "Standards, No Compromise" was often said tongue in cheek.....but this was one man who truly lived these words. Positive, unassuming, and quietly confident; all who knew Scott Love are the better for it. God's speed Scott....see you on the high ground.

It was good to know Scott Love. I remember laying in our foxhole together at Fort Benning in OCS. Always had a smile on his face, throughout the months we trained together. I also remember him talking about and being proud of his daughter. I’m very sorry for your loss.

June 14, 2006

To the Family of 1st Lt. Scott M. Love;

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
