Jenkins was a good soldier. Had the pleasure to be in basic with him. He always helped me out since he was a couple beds down and was always to the standard expected while I still needed some work. Made my bed a few times when we had inspection so we would all pass. That’s major teamwork in a very stressful time. Can’t imagine he would have been any different in combat. Also had the pleasure of being stationed with him in Germany which was great because arriving at any duty station alone is a nerve racking experience it was nice to see a friendly face when I arrived. I remember hearing about his death shortly after returning home myself from Iraq. Truly a loss and my thoughts and prayers for his family left behind.

NEVER FORGOTTEN!!
As a fresh N.C.O. in Baumholder Germany I received one of the greatest gifts God had ever given me. A young man soft spoken like butter but had the heart of a lion. Jenkins reported for duty under me. This is very hard and has been hard since his transition. Jenkins was not only my soldier but he was the guy who kept me in check and didn't even know he was. He seemed greatness and received the same. I miss the talks in the field and deployed to Albania and Macedonia. While race was an issue to many it never stood in the way for Kenneth. Even today and I know tomorrow he will be strong in my heart and always my memories. People often asked how I got to be so decorated but the answer is because of soldiers like Kenneth Jenkins. I was fortunate to see and be a part of him becoming a soldier and a leader of other. Those three years serving with him showed me how good God truly is. If only his light was for all to see but I was one of the chosen and I have to tell. I know he was a great soldier and an even better N.C.O. rest easy my brother and please never leave my memories. Boys II Men..... CAN DO SSG.

While I never knew SSG Jenkins I was in Balad Iraq at the same time. I will be pausing this weekend to Honor and remember his sacrifice,
Doing something a little different this year. Instead of choosing a veteran I have served with or knew who is no longer with us. I choose a fallen veteran to honor from the time and place where I served in Iraq.. I never knew him but I will honor his memory. Rest Easy Brother.

I didn't know Staff Sergeant Jenkins personally, but his service has meaning. Everyone who hears of him and the life he lived has a reason to believe in their fellow man. War begets cynicism and bitterness, but soldiers like Staff Sergeant Jenkins give us something stronger. Warrior-Leaders like Staff Sergeant Jenkins give us a purpose; to use our lives and liberty in a manner worthy of his sacrifice.

I don't know if anyone has seen this but I thought I would pass it on, it is from the website fallenherosmemorial.com .... I am Anxious to contact the Mother of Staff Sgt. Kenneth A. Jenkins a native of Fouke Arkansas who was killed in Iraq in August 2006. In a visit to the US in July of this year, I had the privelege and great honour of planting a flag in memory of Kenneth at the summit of Cottonwood Pass Colorado.
This was in connection with Project Run America where a flag is being posted every mile of a run acros the US. from the West to East Coast in memory of a fallen service person. I have two photographs that I would like to send to Kenneth's Family as memento of this sad, but memorable occasion. I am an elderly Brit Living in the U.K. with a Son and Family living in Crested Butte, Colorado. If you could help I would be ver grateful. Thanks."

Kenneth,
I never had the opportunity to meet you face to face, but I feel like I know you. Your pictures hang on my wall and I hear wonderful, funny and prideful stories of your life from your family. I married a man that holds you so close to his memory and his heart. Yes I married your brother. I believe in angels and I believe you are with my family through everything, I thank you for helping us survive the toughest of times. I will have sorrow in my heart for all times b/c of the sacrifice that you have made for your country. Thank you for watching over your brother, that man and our son means the world to me. I hope that Kenneth Andrew Jenkins ll can live up to the name he was given.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Kenneth, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To Brandi and family, I knew Ken very Well and I could remember all the good times we shared together . He introduced me too TGIF quesadillas at the house and we were weight lifting buddies together at Fort Hood and he loved his mustang. I remember all the good times we shared. I first met Ken in BNCOC and he was always a happy person. He had a tremendous impact on my life and I consider him one of my best friends. I will never forget him. It hurts my heart to know that he is gone. He was like a brother and you should know that he made a difference in many peoples lives. You will be in my prayers Brandi.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I know your pain and share in your loss as you say goodbye to your loved one and we say goodbye to another hero. I had the pleasure of serving with Kenny in C Co. 1-22 before the war got started. He lived in the room across from mine and his face was always a welcome sight when he'd come by.
Thought I missed the war but the gov brought me back under the IRR and I just got home two months ago. What an unwelcome shock to see a familiar name on the list of the dead. To the rest of my buddies over there, stay safe.

To the Family of Staff Sgt. Kenneth A. Jenkins:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
