Davyboy. I love you. I miss you everyday and I would die every day, 1000 times a day, just so you could be here today with Kelly and your loved ones.
You are the best among us. I will see you again. Thank you for making the sacrifice that God wouldn't allow me to make in this life. I know you are watching over me as i type this today, and though i dont see you, I know you see me crying as I remember our best days together.

Only greeted this young man "once" when he the Masters with Monnie Murray...but that one time was enough...enough to last a lifetime! I know he will be greeting me one day in Heaven.

David and I went to boot camp in Parris Island together. He was smart and funny, unlike many of the other recruits. He seemed experienced. We were sorted by height and he was slightly taller than me so whenever we marched around, which was often, I was staring at the back of his head. We spent boot camp in close proximity and talked when we had the chance. He had an inclination to mess slightly with both recruits and the drill instructors. He would talk too much, though he was often right. At one point as a punishment the drill instructors had him shout repeatedly the only words they wanted to hear out of his mouth- "Yes sir, no sir, aye sir!"
Well David shouted for a while but then began to scramble the order of the words, just to screw with the drill instructors. "Yes sir, no sir, aye sir! Yes sir, no sir, aye sir! No sir, aye sir, yes sir! Aye sir, yes sir, no sir! Aye sir, aye sir, no sir!"
He was yelled at again to get it right meanwhile the rest of the platoon was doing their best but failing to keep in their laughter.
He made me laugh often and made my time in boot camp memorable and more enjoyable. I didn't see him much after boot camp but did run into him once and was able to greet him one more time. I didn't learn of his death until years later and was deeply saddened to hear of it.

Only a parent can truly understand loss so deeply and endless that the universe stands still long enough for us to regroup pick ourselves up and soldier on thru life's journey. You were chosen Fran to bear witness to God's grace thru David's journeies end because you are a strong compassionate soul. We honor both of you as we enjoy the Freedom that is fought for so hard by the young men and women of our communities. Semper Fi my Brother . This is God's Country !

I want to thank each of my son David's friends for the phone calls and messages over the weekend. Words can not express how grateful I am with all the kind words and amusing stories you shared. I want each of you to know that the door to David's cabin is always open for you. David's presence is felt and the entire cabin is dedicated in his memory. I know I'm only one of many many mothers that have lost children through war however, it is so comforting to have each of you as support. Personally I do not think time heals; it simply allows the mind to cover the wound and helps you find the strength to move forward. Myles, David will be right by your side on September 12, your wedding date. Again, thank you my friends for always remembering our David.

Thinking of David today. Several years ago I gave Monnie Murray "2" Practice Round tickets to attend the Masters and she brought David as her guest. They had a great time and as I watched them walk away from me as I volunteered on hole #13, I thought the future looked very bright. Several days later I received a very nice thank you note from David...I expected nothing less. What a fine young man and soldier. He made a difference!

I want to pay my utmost respect to David and his family. I was in Iraq in 2003-04 (active Army) and settled here, Ballentine, SC, in 2005. I never met the young man, but was deeply saddened to learn of his sacrifice. So, close to home and you feel you know the individual. Anyway, to his family i assure you he is not forgotten. I always send my gratitude when i am over by the middle/high school. i tell my daughter about what little i know, but how special he, and all the others who served and sacrificed. Time has passed but time will not forget.

Please accept my remembrance of David on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.

Dear Weimortz family,
Even though I did not personally know David, it has been my privilege over the past several weeks to prepare to honor him at our Memorial Day service at First Baptist Church in Crestview, Fl. In speaking with David's father and reading various articles about him, I feel as if I did know him. It was a privilege to honor him this morning with a flower arrangement on the altar in his memory and with the presentation of a prayer coin to his father as a tribute to David from our military support group.
As a Marine mom whose son served 2 tours of duty in the Al Anbar province and also a Patriot Guard rider, I want to let you know that David is not, and will not be forgotten. He is a true American hero. Thank you for raising such a wonderful young man who was willing to give the last full measure of devotion to his country.

This Memorial Day Weekend I have been thinking about David. I keep him and his family in my daily prayers. This wasn't the best of weekends for golf but I'm sure he would have found a way to get at least 18 holes in. I would have loved to introduce my 10 month old son, Johnathan to David. When Johnathan's older I will tell him about David and what a great guy he was and explain how he gave his life to keep us safe. I thank God every day for living in this country and having wonderful men and woman like David protecting our country. Thank you to David and all the other service men and woman who have made the ultimate sacrifice to serve our country and protect our freedom.

Fran,
Nothing is more special than the relationship between a mother and son. Nothing can hurt more but be more grand than to know David is a hero in your heart plus many, many more.
Frank and I served in the mid-60's during a time when a lot of men sacrificed for God and country. That memory only deepens the honor I hold in my heart for David and those who served with him.

I only know of David from and friend and after hearing many stories and reading articles I wish I could say I knew him. However, my best friend Dave was in the Marines with David who shared his story with me. I understand he was very much a golfer and someone who loved to help out youth. I am a full time youth director in Hickory NC. We have a local youth mission golf tournament to raise money for our local missions. I have personally sponsored a hole on the course in Davids memory which will take place June 26th. I would love to send you the pictures directly of his sign and hole with my youth. If you could please email me with your address it would be my pleasure to get these to you. I want to honor him for his service to our country, to kids and his love of golf! God Bless you and your family!

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know David, but I am remembering

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Where do I begin? I went through Boot Camp, and School of Infantry with this man. He was the funniest, most caring, strong-minded person I have ever met. When things got tough he always had a way of making us laugh. Even the Drill Instructors had to hide their faces because they could not keep themselves from laughing. I could honestly write a novel about all the funny times I had with David. It was an absolute honor knowing him, and even more so to call him my friend. I hope to have an opportunity to meet with the Weimortz family.
I graduated from Parris Island with David and was his squad leader during the three month transformation process of becoming a Marine. (I was directly in front of him while marching on graduation day)
I promise you that anyone that came in contact with our platoon knew of him well. Besides being a giant, he had the strongest mind of anyone and never showed fear. He was an inspiration to all of us and occupied the drill instructors with his wittiness. I can't begin to tell you the number of times he got me in trouble for laughing. I still can't figure out how he could keep a straight face.
I caught up with him my first day at Camp Lejeune. I was assigned to 2/8 and we figured we wouldn't see much of each other. I didn't see him often, but did manage to run into him at the chow hall on occasion.
The last time I saw him was in the spring of 2006 at the 8th Marines chow hall. We sat together in the "NCO only" area and traded stories about previous deployments...mostly the funny parts. I deployed that July for Fallujah...it was my last deployment before going back to school as well.
I am deeply saddened by his passing, but can't help but grin when I think about the times we shared.
To raise a man as honorable as David, it takes great parents.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

My name is Dane Hixson and I was lucky enough to know David well. My first interactions with him was in a very competitive envionment wich we all know as Boot Camp. I remember David from a rival platoon and he quickly became a face that I wouldn't soon forget, he and I found ourselves in the School of Infantry together and there we became close friends. We would often confide in eachother with different things and laugh and tell jokes. He was probablly the funniest person I have ever met and I still share stories about him with people that never knew him (just because the stories are so great!) I lost track of David once we went to the fleet but would run into a few times a year in which we would catch up on things. I remember the last time I saw him...I was in the chow hall across from the base theater on Lejeune (wich I never go to) and he was there and he proudly told me he had volunteered for another trip to Iraq. He was excited about it and was confident in his decision. I think back on it and wish I had told him not to go or to atleast tell him he had done enough already. But I knew he couldn't hear it, there was no changing his mind. He was a great American and I miss him deeply. .........I hate the Gators David! I never told you that but I do!! I will never forget your impression of Staff Sgt. Lar and your interpretation of a "steam engine"haha Semper Fi brother!

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

I was saddened to hear recently about the loss of Cpl Weimortz. I had the pleasure of watching David go through the transformation from civilian to Marine as I spent three long months with him at Parris Island, SC in platoon 3040. He has given the ultimate sacrifice and for that we are all gracious for his service. To his family, I am sorry. But know there is no more honorable way to leave this world than the way David has. Hopefully we can all be heroes like David one day- one way or another... Semper Fidelis.

I'd like to express my deepest condolences to David's family on their recent loss. I served with David in Iraq in 2005. It was such an honor getting to know David and bond with someone of his calibur. David was such a funny and intelligent guy yet he was so caring and always willing to help out a Marine who was feeling a little down. Once back state-side, David and I grew even closer exchanging the latest happenings when he'd go home to SC, or about his parents newly discovered home in FL (my home state) and of course he kept me posted on his latest golfing ventures. David will be sorely missed but NEVER forgotten.

To All of the Weimortz Family:
God bless you for enduring the unimaginable. It was my privilege to do a small part in honoring your David......a very small part....because David had brought honor upon himself. He did not really need me or anyone else to accomplish that.
We note the passing of one who stood for us in the breech between good and evil and stemmed the tide.

I am so glad I ran into you and him in Hartsville in the spring. After listing to his interview on ifilms, I am more honored to have known him. To David's family and friends-
My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.
They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

To the Family of Cpl. David G. Weimortz:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
